I don't know why people keep saying that the WiiU CPU is weak! Its clock cycles are slower, but not weak... Most of the initial launch games are running on 1 core because the devkits didn't have the support for multicore at that time. 3rd party games are always going to be a half hearted effort on the WiiU and just like PS3, probably only Nintendo and their internal teams will ever showcase how good games can truly look on the system.
Here's the biggest difference that Nintendo is facing right now. With the 3ds they really don't have much in the way of competition in the handheld market. But with WiiU, Nintendo was not only facing the outgoing 360/PS3 but also the muched hyped PS4 and Xbox One. I hear you on the whole moving the story forward in the Metroid series. But I remember back when the very first game came out and it was a pretty eerie and isolated setting, even for a 2d game.
I agree that it will be the wide variety of games that will sway new buyers to the system. But when these games arrive, Nintendo should start showing advertisements with all of these games in one commercial and only on WiiU.
Actually its not your traditional turn based RPG, which is what will give it a more western appeal. Monolith Soft has stated that they would like to become Nintendo's version of Bethesda, so they know that this game needs to hit a much wider audience than Xenoblade did.
This is what I want from Retro Studios. For them to reboot Metroid and retell the story in HD on WiiU. We already have the Prime series, so how amazing would it be to see Samus and Mother Brain battle it out with never before seen visuals in the franchise. Sometimes you don't need to reinvent the wheel to make a great game. Capcom learned this when rebooting Resident Evil on GC and that's still one of the best Resident Evil's around. Well I don't recall when W101 was announced that people claimed in wanting to purchase a WiiU, but many have said as much for X. From the very first trailer this game has turned heads towards the WiiU and hopefully Nintendo will push and market the game as much as its deserved.
I have to disagree here, because you maybe satisfied with the level of functionality doesn't mean that the next WiiU owner will be. I think its crazy for people to make out like some of these things that people are asking for are either to trivial or meaningless, when Nintendo has the features present on 3ds or on their previous console the Wii. I think it comes down to how people just know The Order is going to be a great game or how the next Uncharted will be good, simply because of the studios behind them. Well Retro Studios makes great games as well, so I'm not sure why people would think any less of this game because its another installment of the franchise.

What I don't get is why Titanfall doesn't deserve the hype, but The Order does? I'm not against either game or the developers behind each, but I think they both have promise and should be allowed to be released before judgement is cast so quickly.
