I having a feeling that most of the layoffs in the industry are based on the idea that AI will do the same job for less.
XCloud and PS Now existed last generation. These game streaming services are not new to 2023. I suppose that more people have fiber internet now, but I doubt 2M more of them started streaming using xCloud in the last year. I can see more owners or gaming PCs opting out of Xbox as all Xbox exclusives are now on P.C. Overall, I think this is simply the Xbox brand weakening.
Mostly one year, 2013. Don’t know how Don Mattrick was employable after this.
I’m with OneLove on this. Don’t go begging to fans when you already took Microsoft’s money.
Was this game “journalist” born in 2012?
Pretty sure games like “Everquest” and “World of Warcraft” were doing live service long before Destiny.
Yo, “Killzone Shadowfall”, “Knack”, and “Knack 2”.
Now you know the disappointing PlayStation exclusives.
Titanfall was only disappointing because it was an Xbox One exclusive. Xbox One didn’t have the numbers to generate the critical mass needed for a multiplayer game. In my opinion, the exclusivity of Titanfall hurt Titanfall 2 almost as much as the beta and launch schedule.
“Anything Kinect is a flop.”
“Kinect Party” was great. Forever lost to time.
I don’t know about heard of fan outcry. Fans weren’t happy when Destiny 2 went with 4v4 only and less than a year later, Bungie brought back 6v6. Would love to see some big team battle in Destiny 2. The game does have tanks so that could be interesting in multiplayer. The big problem is peer-to-peer. Destiny still doesn’t have dedicated servers.
I wish this was the Morbius Machine. I could morb so hard over that.
Funny, I was playing a game on PSVR2 earlier this week. Still plenty of games left!
Please, no more “gates”. Even I wasn’t alive during Watergate and I’m an old man here. Vision Pro isn’t even made to be a primary gaming device. We might as well debate the quality of Lenovo ThinkBooks. Go get your hate on Apple in some other forum.
Could be so probably not.
“Ubisoft announced that ‘Skull and Bones’ boasts over four hours of average daily playtime.”
So the few people playing it are spending a lot of time playing it. But there aren’t enough whales to feed this fleet. This game will die like so many other live service money grabs that came before it.
All these layoffs and no one hiring is going to push talent out of the games industry forever.
No they don’t. These are player counts, not sales. If people are playing their old copy of Skyrim instead of buying Starfield, Microsoft loses.
“Sifu” is the perfect PS+ game for me. I’m not sure I’d like it so I’d never buy it. But I would like to try it.
“Everyone always says that longer is better when it comes to games”
100% not true. The majority of people don’t finish games, and “short” games continue to sell. I think the gaming audience has long moved past the dollar per hour fallacy.
“What I think Phil is doing is setting up some smoke signals that we're thinking very differently”
I’m surprised how slowly Microsoft is moving toward Xbox as a software platform. They usually don’t care so much about upsetting their customers with unpopular changes like they do with every other version of Windows.
