“It's what they've been conditioning ppl for years now.”

They really haven’t. Almost a year ago, Phil brought up the specter of going third party in an interview with the Kinds Funny podcast. Definitely not heard and people are definitely not conditioned to see the Xbox logo on a PlayStation game.

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

PS5 upgrades for PS4 games on PS+ are hit and miss. The reason is usually that publisher doesn’t want to hand out free upgrades. Sometimes they offer the upgrade upfront, sometimes they are bullied into it, and sometimes they offer it later in a special edition that Sony buys for PS+. It looks here like Bethesda’s intent was to raise the profile of Fallout 4 (and sell some DLC) so I expect we will see an update for PS+ versions soon.

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.

I would love to see accessibility change automatically based on my actual reaction times. I like that Spider-Man 2 and Ghostrunner have a slow mo modes. Let me age gracefully.

That’s Whataboutism. Sony and other game companies didn’t pay more than $80B to buy up publishers. Microsoft said in court that it wasn’t going to have redundancies and fire people. Microsoft told Xbox owners that they would have a AAA on GamePass each quarter. But here we are with Microsoft Game Studios shrinking. Consolidation doesn’t benefit the consumer, and no company has consolidated more than Microsoft.

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

Cultural differences. If they knew sooner they would have pulled it sooner.

When people say 2024 is a bad year for games, they mean that their genre isn’t getting much love in 2024. And the only genre that is missing out in 2024 is the shooter. I’m glad that audiences has branched out into other ways to play games and I complained in the Xbox 360 era about every genre devolving into Call of Duty, but I am nostalgic for the glory days of shooters.

The usual beating on the site that gives out the lowest score. If the gaming review industry is to have any legitimacy, it needs harsh critics. I support a site’s right to give low scores.

Skins, in addition to being your largest organ, have been content in games for a long time. Ever heard of pre-order bonuses?

Why should I assume the other scores are right? Review inflation has gotten insane, and not all games are going to fit in the 8-10 out 10 zones.

This is dumb. Fire doesn’t collapse tunnels.

Fallout 4 wasn’t so much divisive as not very good. But there aren’t many first person RPGs so what else are fans of the genre supposed to play?

“Don’t be salty ps5 has destroyed your favourite box in the first half of the year, with Helldivers, Rise of Ronin and Final Fantasy VII, where Xbox has little to no blockbusters in terms of quality, or sales numbers”

I dunno’ man, you are kinda’ asking Xbox owners to be salty.

I like shorter AA games including the original Hellblade (even though the combat was super repetitive for such a short game). I don’t like a 7 minute video that basically serves as an ad for the game.

At an individual game level, too many releases at the same time will hurt a game’s sales.

At the level of all games sales, spending has gone down since the pandemic. However, this isn’t the normal cycle of spending going up and down. The U.S. is the biggest game market and its economy is growing at twice the rate of other G7 economies. So it’s not the economy. (And when the economy is bad, people spend more on games and less on more expensive forms of entertainment.) What’s...
