Here is my opinion having both consoles and playing through both of the original games.
Both are shooters - yes, but they each have a completely different feel and both feel good (umm maybe that sounded wierd???). Resistance comparisons should be made with Halo 3.
I clearly enjoyed Resistance more over Halo 3. I enjoyed Halo 3, but something was just not right (single player at least and compared to Halo 1 and Halo 2).
Now the real comparison is Uncharte...

The last time I went to one of these, all the little 17+'ers only seemed to know the "F" word and used it in every sentence.
I'll pass on the event, but definitely picking up the Limited Edition the next morning with my pre-order.
GOW1 and Uncharted are definitely mt favorite 2 games over the last year or so - haven't played my MGS4 copy yet though

I only see this going lower as the cost of a PC to run the newer games with graphical glory is far more than a console with comparable graphics.
Sure, high-end PCs will alway have better graphical capability, but they will cost 3-4 times as much as the latest console. Furthermore, as more and more people get HDTV, the graphical difference between PC and console narrows even more.
My 360 and PS3 connected to my 50" 1080P HDTV look better than anything my PC can ...
Having both systems connected via hdmi to a 50" 1080P TV, I can say for certain that there is ABSOLUTELY no graphical difference between the two. No framerate differences - nothing.
Anybody who says otherwise, just absolutely must convince themselves that their console of choice was a good buying decision. "I just have to convince myself ... I just have to".

To some extent I agree, BUT ....
Using the 360 as an example, I like to download the HD versions of movies, however, they still look NO WHERE NEAR, Blu-Ray quality - not even close. On my 1080P 50" TV you still see compression artifacts and the color pales in comparison to HD media (HDDVD or Blu-Ray).
The reason is bitrate. HD movies from Xbox Live are between 3 - 8 gigs for the HD version of movies - depending on movie length. HDDVD/Blu-Ray are between 20 ...

I wonder if the slow PS1 updates are due to the worry that they could cannibalize PSP software sales. I know I would play old PS1 games more than buying PSP software - give or take a few here or there. Just like ripping DVDs instead of buying the UMD.

Although I recognize that the titles you list are critically acclaimed and favorites of a lot of readers, I would prefer to see Tomba/Tomba2/Klonoa/Silent Hill/RE - of course I am not an RPG person though.

You must be deaf if you think the 360 is quiter - the PS3 is by far and away a higher quality built machine and is virtually silent in operation - even under load conditions!

I am a loyal PS3 owner and I am a loyal 360 owner and having the luxury of both systems I can most assuredly state that Gears AND Bioshock are some of the BEST games I have played in a long time!
I can also state that Uncharted, Heavenly Sword and UT3 are also FANTASTIC games.
My point is that BOTH systems have great games out and it is a shame that fanboys of one system are incapable of recognizing this.

Game looks FANTASTIC on my set. No jaggies, no slowdown. Everything is crisp and clean.
I do agree about the driver though - viewing a wreck with no driver seems like a detail they should have added. It would be cool if during wrecks the driver was launched from the vehicle :)
I think most everbody who likes gaming knows this title is going to rock and get great scores.
Even 360 only owners know this will be great, just like PS3 only owners know Gears is fantastic!
It is always the fanboy way to attach the technical merits of the opposing console, when in reality, it is the graphics engine and developer skill that impacts the games.
Both consoles are mega-powerful, just implemented in two different ways.
Enjoy your games on your favorite systems - or if you can, get both systems and enjoy ALL the great games this year. One of the best years yet for gaming.
Texture pop-in just after the level loads is only issue I have experienced. Texture pop-in must be an unreal engine issue as gears of War also experienced this when levels would load.
The texture pop-in is less than Gears - probably since you can install the full game to the hard drive.
Framerate is silky smooth and this game does best Gears in the graphics dept. (mainly because it is more colorful). The cut scenes do look like a Gears sequel with marcus Fenix'...
I have played every Doom game since the original in the early/mid 90s and I just recently went back and played Doom 3 on my 360 and I really enjoyed it. I especially liked the soul cube and the "use us ..." mantra when it was charged and ready to use. This sounded devilishly gratifying on a surround sound setup with the volume at a high level.
