Oh I see it. I used to be a PC Elitist during the 3DFx days and GeForce 3/4/5 era.
I switched to consoles only not because of price - that was never an issue, but because of the games I could not play on the PC.
Only Diablo interest me on PC all other games I like are only on Consoles.

As my comment states, I was only referring to the gaming aspect of a PC. $550+ for a device for gaming Is expensive according to every article and many comments on this site.
I don't think this is expensive at all but many do - which I think those who complain about price are in the wrong hobby.
Since this article is about GAMING, how is this price not considered expensive? When a certain console was priced at this level, it was "DOOMED" and given so much hate.
Now this is a good price for a PC although an OS is needed - so another $100 or so. I just think the double standard in regards to price is funny here.
My comment is based solely on gaming only on the PC since it is being compared to consoles by many.

I will do the same. The Vita is in the same situation as the original PSP and Sony never dropped that so I think we will have great games for years on the Vita :)
I don't disagree with you at all on the pricing front for the Vita. I was very happy with the price initially until I found out the propitiatory memory cards cost so much. I think this will hurt Sony's early sales a lot.
But, Sony is skimming the market which is typical for any new high end piece of tech. Early adopters will pay the high price and then the price will drop and be more assessable to the mainstream market.

You may very well be correct in your assessment, I don't know as I can't see the future, but for all gamers sake who want quality software I hope you are wrong.
The Nintendo 3DS sales show consumers want better gaming experiences than mobile can currently offer - so I have hope.
I have an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2 and I will be getting a Vita day one! Why? Can't play Uncharted on my iPhone or iPad and I would never take my iPad out and about with me and my iPhone for REAL gaming - come on now!
I even bought Infinity Blade to see what all the fuss was about and that game has great graphics, but boring ass gameplay. I was bored in 5 minutes - which coincidentally is what mobile gaming is all about, 5-10 minute bursts of dirt simple gameplay.

People LOVE to complain about things they can't afford. I would love to have a Lotus or a Beach Condo in Hawaii, but just because I can't afford those things I won't blame Lotus or the state of Hawaii for that :)
To those above, I agree with your assessments and in my comment I said the casual market is imperative to the success of the Vita, BUT I don't work for Sony and I only stated what I would like - even though it is not realistic.
My comment was more tongue and cheek because I've seen what a casual focus has done to the Xbox brand and I did not like or appreciate it as an Xbox loyalist.

That's probably a wise decision on your part, but for me, I MUST HAVE latest tech NOW!!! :)
I know prices will drop but that is a fact of life and as an early adopter it does not bother me at all - but that's just me.
