Money is money. Sony made about 1.5 billion in revenue off PS2 sales after the PS3 was introduced. We might not, as consumers, have seen the PS4 at all if the PS2 hadn't somewhat offset those early staggering losses Sony was incurring. So yes last gen console sales are important because they provide a steady revenue stream that allow these companies to compete harder for our dollar.

@Tedakin
Certainly plausible but not likely given the 360's sales have dropped...

And the irony is Sony has been trying to curtail the initial drought that accompanies a new console generation with indies and remasters, and they get shit on!

Don't think it's odd at all amigo. While John certainly isn't under the employment of Sony, I'm sure he has friends and contacts there. Why spoil what was clearly their focus of the upcoming GDC...so he could essentially yell firsties through media?

isn't Comcast buying Time Warner Cable? Maybe this is grandfathered in the acquisition.

agreed...there has been ample time between projects to leave on your own accord. There's something more to this, and any adult here knows how office politics can make for a frustrating and ultimately "it's not worth it anymore" experience.

I just wonder how many high profile losses ND can sustain and continue to pump out high quality work. Did any of us really think Insomniac would take a plunge in the 7th gen after the PS2 days? Is Sucker Punch that next 1s...

I admit I laughed at the comments more than the video. I recognized two n4g screen names and those were the two dumbest posts made in the whole thread!

yep, devs are forced to gimp their games to make them more accessible. Mega Man was a ridiculous game of old. I remember it taking all night to beat that last stage, the real sun coming up as the sun came up at the end of the game with Mega man waving. I remember my best friend and I both lying about the 1st time we claimed to beat Castlevania (that goddamn Grim Reaper). We realized each of us were BSing the other and we finally beat it together. I miss those days when some games were so toug...

Man I really feel sorry for you Brits. My apologies. Damn, even with those huge savings, you guys end up paying the same with the discounted price as I do for a Day 1 physical copy.

No they aren't. Both are $59.99. 2K is the only mega-publisher that launches at $49.99, at least here in the States.

By the same token, don't older retail games on consoles get cheaper as well? The way I see it, the "frugal" gamer sees the benefits all across the board by being patient. Not every PC gamer waits for the seasonal sales, or we wouldn't see annualized software like COD or Assassin's Creed consistently in the top sellers on Steam at full MSRP(currently sitting 26th & 30th respectively).

Yep. Can't believe Pach is this brain dead on the matter. It's not rocket science. PS Now is for legacy software. PS+ is for older but current gen software. For new content you'll need hardware, either a PS3 or a PS4.

EDIT: Fishy already posted what I typed.

Technically, it isn't. 1152x640p is just below native 720p (HD) but I get whay you're saying.

While we really don't see a discernible difference upscaled to 720p from its native res, it would be glaring at native 1080p. I hope the entire original trilogy makes its way over to XB1 in fullHD.

I just went to the MS store to get the details on the offer. You can apparently also trade in your 360 Slim or Elite for a $100 credit. Weird that they chose to omit that info as well from the email.

I certainly would not rule out a delay either but we have have to keep in mind RaD's last game was a GoW port in 2011. By the time the holidays hit, almost 3 years will have passed. Wouldn't surprise me if the storyline and conceptual art weren't proposed a year earlier, right after shipping Ghost of Sparta.

Correct my good sir. Forget supply constraints. I guarantee you if someone before launch asked the suits at Sony if they'd be happy with 1.5:1 lifetime sales ratio advantage in the UK, we'd see smiles all around.

To put that number in perspective, in the 7th gen, MS outsold Sony 9mil to 6mil in the UK. By the same 3:2 ratio! It's possible that PS4 might outsell XB1 and WiiU combined this gen in the UK, given how poorly Ninty's latest console has been received ...

100% agreed. Thought this for a few years. They should've had a movie studio dedicated to video game adaptations as well. Not just 1st & 3rd party IPs either, but MS and Nintendo ones too since these companies really don't compete with another in this segment of the entertainment industry. I see games being Hollywood's next big focus after they're done exploiting comics so why not be there first?

Platinum trophies come down to 2 things: pricetag or exclusivity (permanent or timed doesn't seem to matter). If you want a plat, developers must pay the piper one way or the other.

"but as far as I can recall the ps2(with an even lower price than the wii), ps3 and the 360 had more than enough children/party games to cater to that casual market. Then you had the motion controls ok but 100 M units??"

@Ultra - I think you're underestimating the lack of buttons Wiimotes have in relation to standard gamepads. That was the sheer genius of the Wii, the simplicity of the UI, not motion control per se. People of all age groups could pick up a Wiimo...
