I'm curious GL. Is the $399 price your ceiling or the highest ceiling you think consumers are willing to pay? I wouldn't balk at a $500 price tag if the OEM breakdown reveals they're already losing $300 per unit. But to this day, the PS3 is the only Sony device I didn't buy at launch on principle. So I understand if this your personal line in the sand.

@strength

absolutely. I just meant buy a Sony phone get the service included with your contract. There's Sony's solution to the handheld question. A dedicated handheld in 2022 is a terrible idea. PSNow needs to jump to all devices. How they determine content is the key. Maybe a 12 or a 24 month moratorium on current gen software so it doesn't devalue their console (eg. 1st 4 years of PS4 library but not last or this years' games are available to select from)...

Yep, I'll get downvotes but I'd rather they retool PSNow, fix the issues with Xperia 1, and include the streaming service with a 2 year contract. T-mobile includes Netflix, so why not?

Probably one more gen. During their most recent fiscal earnings report, Sony intimated digital full games accounted for 37% of an IP's sales. Obviously physical still comprises the bulk of software sales. Next gen should be 50/50 or digital taking slightly larger piece of the pie. I doubt we see a disc-less flagship model till PS7 at the earliest (PSP Go, Xbox SAD notwithstanding)

I don't think it's really necessary for a Pro. Especially if recent rumors prove true that the PS5 is the equivalent of an $800 machine subsidized by PS+ revenue for a consumer friendly price ($499). Even with what little facts we do know it seems like they're futureproofing it. The ability to play movies in 8K, games upscale to 8K, etc... seem like they're setting the stage for a slim revision down the road and willing to take the loss during the initial launch a la the PS3 ...

problem is pete you failed to mention anything about what was wrong with PS+, how to improve it, etc...All you did go off topic about the Epic store due to the blind loyalty of fanboys. Then you bring up Humble which doesn't further any point you were attempting to make, especially since those SAME deals are largely available on consoles. So I again ask you what was the point of you going off topic? To try to save some money? On PC?

no mon frere, I'm saying it makes sense for Ninty to release a handheld only model because the demographics they've targeted wouldn't buy a pro model. Stripping away features to reduce costs is certainly nothing new in the industry. Did you admonish Sony when they replaced hardware with software emulation on the 1st PS3 revision? How about when they completely removed BC with the second "slim"?

what if I hated the joycons? What if I didn't care about the table top feature? Maybe I play all the time but not at home?

You keep bringing up scenarios where obviously that person should be directed to buy the original Switch. This new device isn't aimed at 90% of the N4G crowd. It's aimed at children, soccer moms, someone looking to buy a cheap second Switch. This item is gonna crush in Japan with Pokemon. All I seem to read on the net "I wanted a Swit...

Funny thing happened on the way to the Epic store..........I realized it was the Epic store........

I'm always baffled about how people can defend shoddy practices when it comes to their preferred platform. I guess leveraging your middleware engine wasn't enough. I guess lowering royalties wasn't enough. I guess the only way to combat Valve is apparently buying 3rd party exclusives, timed or outright. For a decade, it has been a pariah on the console landscape. ...

I would love if Ninty had 2 models of Switch 2; one a true handheld like Switch Lite and a more powerful tablet-esque device. Both portable but the Lite is meant for everyday use outside of the home while Pro can be used mainly for portability within the house. The Lite features a 7" 1080p screen while the 12" tablet has a 1440p display. The dock is sold separately & features a 1TB HDD, ethernet n USB ports. When docked resolutions upscale to 4K. The Lite retails for $199, Pro $...

amigo I've been typing this for 2 years now. I'm no EddieNX or even Michael Pachter, but this was a no-brainer. The only thing I was wrong about was the color schemes; I said 5 colors not 3. This is gonna cause some Wii levels of hysteria in Japan by years end

who cares! For 1-2-3 Switch? If you're dumb enough to buy extra accessories to play that glorified, pack-in demo of a game then you deserve to get fleeced.

don't see a Switch Pro happening, at all. Nintendo hasn't cared about power since the Gamecube. Why would anyone think they're going to do a 180 and launch a more expensive variant? They already have a hybrid concept solution and the world's most powerful handheld in tow. A souped up Switch isn't gonna make a difference when the next gen twins release.

I know I'm in the minority but I don't think we'll see a Pro model unless both companies do it at launch. I mean look at what the 1X achieves with 6 TFs. PS5 and Nxtbox will almost double that power. Both consoles will upscale games to 8K to kinda futureproof themselves. Wouldn't shock me to see a return to the norm though and get "slim" revisions down the road.

EDIT: Sony already stated that they believe in the generational model so I don't t...

Services? Remember when they used to try to beat them with better hardware? Then better software? Now it's just sad.

MS has moved on to the cell phone crowd according to executive Matt Booty, "You know these stats as well as I do. In the last 20 years, we’ve tripled the number of gamers. We’re coming up on $150 billion of top-line revenue from the game industry. We’re going after 2 billion players. It would be safe to say that we’re not going to sell 2 billion con...

The rumors of Bad Company 3 launching alongside PS5 n Nxtbox in 2020 need to be true. EA could use some good PR. A highly requested game minus loot boxes minus interviews from dumbass Dice employees might do the trick. Well at least 2 outta 3 aint bad. Probably a better chance seeing pigs fly than an EA game w/o loot boxes

Gearbox did the expansions for Half-Life; Blue Shift & Opposing Force. They also served as a liaison between Sony and Valve during the early years, creating Half-Life Decay for the PS2. Arkane would be a decent second choice if Viktor Antonov is still there
