I agree the console is a commercial failure but I don't see it being an agenda driven device from MS to simply remove ownership. The point of any company is to make money. Inherently, a disc-less console would generate more said revenue. The two biggest mistakes MS made was timing and price. I'm not saying they ever would've sold boatloads of SAD editions, but had they released the SAD back in August 2016 alongside the S for $50 cheaper and a substantially bigger HDD to accommod...
sure he can. They haven't been heavy metal since Bob Rock and Rick Rubin took over as producers. Does playing the National Anthem at a NBA Finals game sound heavy metal to you?
"I'm asked for motivation to remake one of Silent Hill 1-3. But, as I tweeted before, I really don't have any interest in remake of it. Also I don't have any right to SH, even Pyramid Head & Bubble H Nurse. If I have to work on the series & the one is a new sequel w/o PH, I'll do [it]"
That doesn't sound like a glowing endorsement to me at all. "If I HAVE to work on the series" , "really don't have ANY interest in rem...
To be fair, 3rd party Japanese companies enjoy far more success when Sony consoles sell well. Konami, Capcom, and Square became publishing giants during the PS1 and PS2 days. Sony releases the PS3 which struggled in the States vs the Wii and 360. Ergo most 3rd party Japanese companies struggled last gen too. Everyone was to quick to blame Japanese companies for catering to the West when factually they didn't have a platform to sell their wares in the West. Japanese IPs don't tradit...
Sales mean the product is successful. That's all. "Good" is objective. I find it amusing people readily admit they're a sucker. In your case twice over. If I blew $800 on paper weights I'd sure as hell not brag about my lack of self-control
agree about 360's inclusion. WW numbers make it 6th. People don't realize how popular the 360 was in the States. It is the number 2 best selling console in NA, trailing only the PS2. It outsold the PS3 by 17 million in NA, even outsold the Wii by nearly 5 million
and of course Nova reading comprehension isn't your strong suit. I'll type slowly and shorter -
Xbox SAD launch 2 years after S
Yes same price captain obvious as S
Same price is not competitive pricing
Ergo, SAD console DOA
There ya get it? The SAD's pricetag and late launch made it a non-entry from the start. It was never going to sell like gangbusters but mismanagement made it a complete failure before it was even launched...
spot on. Frankly the timing of its release doomed it from the start. Sony did the same thing last gen with the PSP Go. Not that these were ever gonna set the world on fire but it makes you wonder why they even bothered when they harpooned them from the onset. Would've been interesting to see the respective sales breakdown if they made them truly competitive to the standard model at launch: Xbox one S, 1 TB HDD at $299 to the Xbox one SAD, 2 TB at $249.
I know anecdotal...
it's a waste of money regardless. Can't believe how people have championed these glorified, walled gardens anyway. Now they're rolling out Uplay+, and if recent rumors are accurate, Activision will roll out one at PS5 launch.
What I really want to know is, when do we get THQNordicpass and 505 games+ ? My life won't be complete until then....
A $350-400 mid-gen Nintendo console would be a commercial disaster. Sure, a lot of people here might want one. The N4G community isn't an accurate reflection of the overall industry though. Time and time again this has been proven. Reference the latest Famitsu charts. You'll notice the disparity of sales between the new 3DS and 2DS. You don't think that data flies right on by Ninty's top brass, do ya?
You want a Switch Pro? No problem, you'll just have ...
We need to get some numbers. I'm genuinely curious why Sony hasn't released anything official yet. Usually that's an indication that a product is under performing. Yet, it took the top spot in Japan for 3 weeks (180k). It took the top spot in the UK sales charts for 3 weeks, the top spots in Italy, France, and Belgium - so it's performed well in EU markets. Finished 2nd in NA in consecutive months and still clinging to the 10th spot last month. According to NPD, it's the...
Because they're not competing, understand? Improving your store with requested features is competing. Offering incentives and cutbacks for using UE4 is competing. Offering reduced royalties to entice developers is competing. Offering preferential storefront placement and marketing assistance to smaller devs is competing. Know what's NOT competing? Buying exclusivity because you can't compete....on an open platform!?! Not only is it shady but downright pathetic. I hope CDR sell 30...
sometimes though you have stand up for principles. I find it amusing that console gamers have had to combat silly third party exclusive deals for a decade but somehow now it's acceptable on PC? That's the 800 lb gorilla in the room.
with an overemphasis on subscription services and mediocre 1st party content right? With the exception of Forza Horizon, every single MS franchise has seen the worst entry this gen. Doesn't that worry any hardcore Xbox fans?
Halo 5 may be a good MP experience, but the story was awful with recycled bosses. Gears 4 was decent but again story-wise rehashed plot with rehashed enemies felt stale the 4th go-around. It's like Nathan Drake went searching for El Dorado'...
not cringe, bravo Eddie. One of the few Ninty fans here to have the balls for acknowledging issues of his favorite company. He's the only fan here on N4G who called the Switch a handheld, instead of being hoodwinked by Nintendo's PR. Look at the OP's comment. His usual deflection of critical analysis on Nintendo into something negative about Sony (straw man fallacy) is getting quite old and undermines any credibility he might have had.
They go to the irrelevant trade shows but E3 is too expensive to justify attending? Riiiight....We criticized Nintendo for their Directs in the past but now it's ok if Sony does it? Riiiight.... If they felt they didn't have anything to show (which is complete BS since five 1st party exclusives are still in the pipeline), Sony could've opened the stage up to their 3rd party business partners and highlighted their upcoming wares. That's what makes Sony's console fantastic...
Gemmol, no it didn't. Nintendo made more overall profit that gen because GBA and Gamecube revenue is combined. Sony profited more off the PS2 than Nintendo did with the Gamecube. These are the facts:
(using NA dates)
Gamecube
Total units sold: 22 million
Total software sold: 208 million
Released: Nov/2001
Discontinued: Feb/2007
PS2
Total units sold: 157 million
Total software sol...
Nothing. It's not coming. You'll be able to buy the Super Switch in 2022/2023 anyway. Nintendo learned this lesson last gen (new 3DS vs. 2DS). Go look at the latest Famitsu sales chart and you'll understand why they're releasing a Lite and not a Pro model.
Sony has never included Vita's sales with the PS4. There was a time when Sony DID report Vita and PS3 as a lump number to conceal individual sales 2011-2013. The PS4 has been a sales behometh
Just what I always wanted, a FPS with training wheels. Thanks cross-play!!!
