Those are the two standouts this year so far. God of War III is quality as well. I thought Heavy Rain was great but after I finished the game I realized that it didn't really follow through on its promises.
As for Alan Wake? I'm finding that I don't even like the titular character. He seems like a bit of an emo whiner to me, but I'll reserve judgement until I'm further into the story. The setting is awesome and atmospheric, but the controls and animations...
NICE!!! I hope it's done properly, like Condemned.
It seems to keep a similar film noir feel to it like the first game - and that's a big plus.
I'm equally excited and nervous about this game since Deus Ex is the best and most immersive game I've ever played.
I think the ability to swim would be nice. It would be cool to take a raft down the rapids near Tall Trees. Or, maybe escape a Bounty Hunter by taking a leap of faith off a cliff into the river, Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid style.
Oh, and more fist fights!
I think it would be fun to swim down the rapids near Tall Trees. Or, maybe escape a Bounty Hunter by taking a leap of faith off a cliff into the river, Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid style. That's the point of open world games - you're free to do what you want.
Don't get me wrong, I friggin love this game, on my second play through now, but it would have been nice to have the option to swim.
You're right about the annoying inability to swim, though it doesn't ruin the awesome experience.
@T9X69 and ReservoirDog316 - You're right, there isn't much reason to swim, but I would've still liked the option. I mean, there's not much reason to hogtie some poor NPC, drop him/her onto the train tracks and watch for the train to pass, but it's still fun to do.
I know this may sound stupid, but I think if they paired Natal with 3D games it could be much more attractive. Given the feeling of extra interactivity with objects that look like they're coming at you, it would almost feel like virtual reality.
but, "AYE CARUMBA!" at your avatar REDHULKSMASH.
Not only is the 2K series the best basketball sim out there, now they're bringing the greatest player of all-time into the game. Crossing my fingers in the hope of this coming true. Also, bring back some classic teams!
The original was one of my favourite PC games of all time. Hopefully, this brings the same great narative the first was known for.
I don't have much to write, but it's refreshing to see someone respond with an articulate comment in N4G. I too would like ethnic and non-ethnic video game characters fleshed out without the same tired cliches that populate our games.
Kudos and have a bubble on me=)
*Shudder*
I'm now scarred for life
Thank you for being one of the few rational posters here. I've almost had it with these idiots ruining the forums with their ridiculous fanboy wars.
I, for one, cannot wait for this game to come out, it looks fresh and Remedy seem to be trying something different with the episodic format. If it doesn't look as good as Uncharted 2 or GoWIII so be it. As long as the immersion factor is there, I'm playing the game.
I'm gonna be poor for a while....sigh
I have to admit the 1.05 patch did kill some of the fun in MP but I've gotten used to it. My biggest gripe was the one-hit kills for the sniper rifle where any lucky fool could kill you with a shot to the leg. I'm glad ND are thinking of fixing it.
The worst problem for me is those damn glitchers cheating their way to victory. Almost every map has this now and, coupled with the sniper's one hit kills, these jerks can turn a match lopsided with no skill whatsoever.
Unless it's gonna be some graphical powerhouse, I can see this coming to the consoles.
That link from Shacknews was a little disturbing though, given that lead designer Jean-Francois Dugas thought the first game was "kind of slow"
and,
"There weren't enough exciting, memorable moments [in the original]"
and finally,
"It was aimed more towards a simulation rather than a game experience."
This has me a...
Reinstalling right now!!
Deus Ex is still the best video game experience I've had to this day. I'm optimistic about the third installment but I'm a little cautious since Invisible War scarred me for life.
Fingers crossed..
Not a huge fan of the new MP update. The Dragon Sniper gives cheap kills now... I shot some guy in the leg and he died! Before the only one shot kills were head shots, now anyone can get lucky.
I played a Sniper and Pistoles match and everyone was hiding coz of the damn snipers. There was hardly any movement and turning a corner was a huge pain in the balls.
It'll take some time to get used to, i guess.
...coz Cole's redesign looks fucking horrendous
"They described him as an “EXTREME sports star - like Travis Pastrana, Tony Hawk..." That sounds an awful lot like "Poochie the rocking dog".
Cole's supposed to be battle hardened in the future, not some pretty boy from NSync
