Look I like Valve, but let's not pretend Valve is infallible anymore.
-SteamOS/Linux was half@$$ed. Valve clearly used it as a threat to MS in order to stop them from monopolizing PC gaming. The second MS backed off a little, Valve dropped almost almost all of its efforts.

Then go back and play them. I did, and I crushed them without even trying.
The only games that were "Hard", were games in the 80's - but those were artificially hard because of how insanely short they were. All it took was an hour or two of practice, and then you could beat the ENTIRE game from start to finish in 3 hours lol. That is NOT hard!

Nobody complains about dying in Dark Souls, Uncharted, Halo, or Mario.
Why? Because you only die when it's your fault. It's fair.
However in my experience the grand majority of horror games suck. They are scary for 30 min, and then turn into second-rate horror games with outdated combat mechanics. Scary games are meant to be scary. If you die 100 times it stops being scary because it is predictable, and nothing predictable is scary.
