Or, you know, I know what I'm talking about. Tales of Graces f and Nier are the two I was talking about, mind you.
As for the games you mentioned.... Demons Souls and Dark Souls are both WRPGs (nation of birth has no bearing on genre), Disgaea 3 and 4 are both SRPGs, and Valkyria Chronicles was a Strategy game, not an RPG at all.
The only valid game on your list is White Knight Chronicles--which wasn't very good at all. If you want decent RPGs, handhe...
I don't see why the problem with ME3's ending is so hard for so many people to articulate. It's very simple:
The Mass Effect series revolves around the concept of a player making choices that effect the narrative. The concept of player choice is central to the very idea of mass effect. ME3's ending completely ignores this aspect, locking players into the same ending no matter their decisions, and failing even to offer an epilogue--something that, by way of tex...
Japan has always been relevant to the gaming industry, and if anything has become MORE relevant. There's a reason why the word "Nintendo" is synonymous with gaming.
Only bigots (and goddamn are there a lot of these in the industry/community) and the blind think Japanese developers somehow devolved in the last decade. There was a shift in the industry, yes--most of the talent shifted focus to cheaper-to-produce handheld and mobile gaming platforms, where less cos...
Isn't there a statute of limitations for these things? Like, I don't know, "plus or minus one week?"
Four ToGf reviews in 30 minutes. Thanks for not using the same generic image as the other three.
So I'll comment on the review.
It's not THAT good. Story is generic and (often) poorly executed, leaving many unresolved questions and several moments where key conflicts could be resolved with simple party banter (usually an aspect of narrative Tales of games NEVER fail at). Characters are mostly underdeveloped archetypes, the hero (Asbel) being the worst...
Because Square Enix has such a phenomenal track record with the Final Fantasy brand.
It's been more than a decade; they've yet to produce a single good game; how long will people still hype themselves up for a franchise that stopped being its best--or really all that good--in more then 10 years?
It makes me shudder to think of how strong the "rage" will be at this time next year when gamers the world over are "shocked" that Dragon ...
...It will not. For a myriad of reasons someone else can explain.
And, personally, this game is a giant "F*** You" from the developers. This is three times, three times they're giving us paltry "demo-sized" offerings instead of, you know, an ACTUAL game. Hell, they could probably combine this with Trial and Last and have nearly as much--or more--content than their first PSP game.
Generally speaking, the only response a person trying to argue AGAINST the basic, inherent consumer right of open criticism is, well, "Fuck you."
There's no real way to hold a civil discussion with people so clearly opposed to their own best interests.
It's a steal for $95. Definitely not worth the MSRP, but a steal for $95.
Future Shop/Canadian Best Buys seem to have had an awful lot of really good gaming deals this year.
They're not terribly accurate. The narrative takes a lot of liberties and you shouldn't expect ANY accuracy in that department. The main draw (for people actually familiar with the history) is the actual world design--which very often IS historically accurate--to a degree.
Generally speaking, the historical elements of Assassin's Creed games are at about the same level as your average pulp historical-fiction novel. The nonfiction element is really just a thin vene...
So, basically, the only problem with the game is that it's 2 hours long, and costs $30 USD.
Yeah, I figured as much.
Loved the demo myself, but I'm not buying it until it gets a (substantial) price cut.
Think this'll come out of Japan? I'm sick of playing NA games in Japanese.
Many people (myself included) agree. But that doesn't change the fact that digital distribution IS the future--of every form of media.
The music industry has already been taken over by DD. Books, too. With mobile games, XBLA, PSN titles, Steam, etc., digital distribution is becoming ever more common with games.
A key aspect of the Playstation Vita is the 100% digital distribution of software--if you can buy it in a store, you can download it. How much lo...
Aren't we still missing some Layton and Ace Attorney games? There's always a chance they might jump out of Japan one of these days. After all, the Wii is getting two top-tier games Stateside this summer, despite being "dead" for nearly a year.
Well, they weren't THAT accurate. But yeah, it was nice. A major draw for many people; THE major draw for people like myself.
But, to be blunt, pre-Industrial America is just about the WORST possible setting for an Assassin's Creed game. They have to take (fairly drastic) liberties with the urban architecture of the era in order to maintain the same urban-platforming we've come to expect from the franchise. If they tried to be historically accurate, even the large...
Of course you can. Hardware capability means nothing. People who try to argue otherwise, whether they realize it or not, are buying into the same obnoxious pseudo-logic baby-gamers use to justify not playing older games.
Right now, it's perfectly valid to compare Dragon Age to Shadows of Amn. Both are massive, epic RPGs on the PC platform. One is vastly, vastly superior to the other. It's a valid comparison, right?
And by this time next year, Shadows ...
"Front-loading a review with misery is kind of a bummer."
They sure started out making the game sound absolutely awful.
Going by the final score, I'm guessing that they eventually found other elements to make up for it. The gameplay? I honestly can't say for certain: the article is a mostly incoherent mess. There's quite a bit of text there, but it doesn't actually say much of substance.
I'd thought this site was...
I've had a PS3 since launch. Now I have two. And a PSP. And a Vita.
And I've yet to play a single Minis title. Are any of 'em genuinely good? The little I've heard about 'em make 'em sound like a collection of cheap mini-games, and given how little content full-on PSN games typically have, I can't see the appeal for shelling out any amount of money for 15 minutes of game.
Oh, yeah. Definitely. Matte white would be perfect, I think. Sony's glossy black electronics look great on show floors and promotional material... but to actually own something like that... or to see 'em on display at kiosks...
Well, let's just say I rub down my launch PS3 and Vita with cloth for several minutes nearly every other day because of all the visible markings. The 3DS is the same. And Wii, come to think of it. Glossy black ain't cool, folks. It ain&...
How very arrogant. And ignorant.
What, do you think the United States just came into being one day? Spawned out of nothingness? American culture can trace its roots back just as far as every other culture on this planet.
In fact, AC3 should be lauded for choosing to focus on the Native American aspect of American culture, an aspect frequently ignored (and treated with profound disrespect and ignorance) in all forms of media, from novels to television to movie...
