Don't put blame on the consumer. We're the ones that paid for the game, we have every right to bash it. Don't tarnish your own company name by defending a crap product by your fellow developer.

They've bought studios before, and now those studios are merely a shell of their former selves. Microsoft had so much exclusive support during the original Xbox days. What the fuck happened??
The Xbox 360 did terribly in Japan. The Xbox One is also doing terrible in Japan. What makes them think they can pull it off a third time? They released games on the 360 like Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, and even those didn't end up pushing units as they hoped. Blue Dragon was pretty much an Xbox version of Dragon Quest. Same artist and publisher. It should've sold well, but didn't. Maybe Xbox will just never catch on in a place like Japan.
Maybe people are just getting sick of zombie games?

My point was that GoW doesn't need to be open world. In fact, it'd be better for the studio not to attempt an open world game in the series. Their strong-suit has always been linear levels, set pieces, etc, and they do that very well. Santa Monica Studios are some of the best in this industry when it comes to linear action/adventure games. No need to stray from that path and end up creating something that doesn't come close to the quality in other open world games.
The day this series becomes open world, is the day I stop playing it. I don't want every game to be open world. There's this odd misconception in the gaming world that "more areas to explore = more fun." No, it's not always more fun. It's always more overwhelming.
Not every game needs 300 hours of fetch-quest content. I already have Fallout 3+4, Witcher, inFamous, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, RDR, GTA, etc.

If it's a co op focused game, then obviously it's going to be boring if you play it by yourself. Even an awesome games like borderlands will get boring if you play it alone (not to mention, you're at a disadvantage gameplay-wise). I don't know why everyone is surprised that a game that was built to play with buddies, is boring if you play by yourself .
