Yeah, I definitely get into a groove with one machine, ignoring all my others. When the Wii first came out, I picked one up and didn't get a PS3, but I had a 360 already which I'd been playing non-stop for months, without touching any other console. When the Wii dropped, I played the hell out of that with Mario 64, Gunstar Heroes, Link to the Past, and Castlevania IV, and a bunch of other VC titles that came out early that I got into, along with Twilight Princess and some other Wii games. ...
It's not a list of the Top 20 quality games, it's a list of the top 20 sold.
Actually Isu, I do agree that the format war would still be raging. If the PS3 and 360 launched at the same time at the same price, the 360 would still have done OK, but not nearly as well as it has done under the circumstances. It would have been in last place in sales instead of second, but it'd still be kicking, and with all the games being printed on HD-DVDs, that format would still be kicking too. So, yeah, the format would still be alive, but it'd be a perpetually sinking ship.
Anybody who thinks that the 360 wouldn't have done worse if it launched side by side with the PS3 at the same price is a fool. Period.
And yes it is true that HD-DVD wasn't ready for the 360's launch. To include it WOULD increase the price, and it would have delayed the console. As I said: no price advantage, no timing advantage, no sales advantage, smaller installed base. The logic is sound.
The primary reason that the 360 has been met with such success is that it hit the market a full year before the competition. Second, HD-DVD was not ready for retail when the Xbox 360 launched. This is a detail many ignore. If they wanted to include HD-DVD, the 360 would have been delayed the extra year, like the PS3 was.

In fact, he does not have a good point about the Dreamcast. He makes it seem like some kind of aggressive marketing killed the Dreamcast dead in its tracks. First of all, marketing is fair game, and nobody wins unless consumers decide to spend their money on it. So that's out the window. Just so you're aware, Pinky, the Xbox 360 was outsold by the PS3 throughout the world, as is usual. So what are you talking about? 360 barely outsells PS3 in USA and UK, but the PS3 more than makes up for that in Japan and Europe. 360 definitely didnt deserve to be number 1. I think PS2 should've been number 1, not PSone. But PSone had fantastic games as well.
