Realistically the PSP Go is going to be the only option soon though, probably after the holidays. The companies always want to push the newest thing. Just like you don't see the old brick DS and you won't be seeing PS3Fat anymore.
I'm kind of doubting that there will be as many parallels to WoW as Pennywise drew in his comments above. Between the "broader appeal" and "not going to compete with WoW" comments, I really feel like this game will be a completely different animal. Who says gear and farming will be aspects of the game at all?
Remember that they constantly call it an MMO. They don't include the letters RPG.
But this number is just for Japan though. Which has a much small base of players (smaller population in general). These numbers in Japan are like a game selling 5 million in two days in the U.S.
It's not necessarily false, but what else would they possibly say? The PS3 has peaked? Not exactly smart PR.
Ghostcrawler was being sarcastic, using obviously made-up numbers to serve his argument about tanking. He even clarified this on the forums this afternoon. This site is just way too quick to draw conclusions from any little thing.
Reporting the story as it isn't even close to true.
Activision's comments earlier in the summer touting that they may have to stop supporting PS3 was regarding their desire for Sony to put more consoles in people's homes. Revenue per console is an interesting statistic, but it isn't really what this article is about.
Those numbers are pretty damn meaningless. Revenue isn't relevant unless you can also see the expenses associated with each console in order to see the profit. You can't just look at raw revenue and "prove" that Activision will/will not support a console, because for all we know they're spending 500 million developing games for both Xbox and PS3 and only 1 million on DS games making DS most profitable by far.
EDIT: Rereading the above comments, some of you seem to thi...
I'm sure the logic also includes getting everyone's attention back on the L4D franchise right before the new game is released.
I suppose it just shows that they did what was easy instead of actually realizing the potential to design a cool space inspired by the game. Why should the spaces for each game just be a "decorated" room? Wouldn't it be way cooler (and far more worth visiting) if it was actually designed to be like one of the castles in the game which you could then explore in Home, instead of being a flat round area with statues?
Because then 95% of PCs couldn't play it?
I think this article shows exactly why Sony should have considered a deal. It's a very cutthroat industry, they should know by now that things which are now free for them to use may not always be.
Yep as an alchemist who doesn't arena, I'm really excited about these changes.
The xbox live iPhone apps I've tried have all sucked. Really glad to see they've put out a mobile version of their web site.
Do you realize this is a multiplatform game? You sound exactly like the fanboys this article is talking about. Did you READ this article before commenting?
They were very specifically talking about DLC. This is pretty misleading.
I was one of those 1.4 million. Solid sequel. My only little frustration is the parts that were obviously held back for an expansion, like pets, but it is still a ton of content.
You said "news" when you must have meant "wild speculation"...
You've gotta consider though, that you just described a significant chunk of the PS3's demographic.
Secrecy about upcoming price drops isn't really to throw off the competition so much as it is to keep consumers from waiting if they were going to purchase one anyway. If I'm ready to buy a PS3 tomorrow for $400 but I hear it's going to be cheaper in August I'm sure as hell going to wait.
This article overlooks a lot. The $50 you pay for a game does not just go straight to the developer. Going off his GTAIV numbers from the article, in reality it is more like this (note that I am pulling numbers out of the air, the point is that I am including costs he left out):
Development: $100,000,000
Cost Of Game: $50
Number of Copies Sold: 13,000,000 copies
Retailer cut of each sale: $20
Royalty to console company (MS, Sony) per copy sold: $10 ...
