Even if the Wii U fails it will prolly do sales in the range of gamecube in its life time... It will still sell first party games at a good rate and in the end Nintendo wont have made as much money as they planned .. but they wont be hurting terribly because of it.
Iwata has a few cards he can pull and say ... Hey we had the Wii do 100 Million and I fixed the 3DS it is doing DS numbers... If Nintendos portfolio was doing terrible as a whole id agree with a restructure... but ...
Metroid Prime Trilogy is going for around that price unopened as well (80s if opened).. Got me a mint condish copy from Movie Trading company for like 30 bux.
Nintendo knows they will need a price drop going into the later half of the year.. Executives and investors are putting so much pressure on Iwata and quite frankly im not sure how he even has a job still in light of saying he wouldnt make the 3DS mistake again..
3DS came to the market at a jacked up price of 249.99 with a weak first party software lineup and a very slow stream of good games. It also didnt launch with its full base software like the eshop... After 6 to 8 mont...
The Wii and Wii u weren't risky? Wii sports, fit, and Nintendoland weren't risky new experiences?
Don't make it sound like it is super easy to come up with and sustain the amount of quality Nintendo has been successful with since 1986. If it wasn't for Nintendo taking risks on certain technologies and gameplay mechanics no one else would pushing the bar.
I dont see how anyone can argue whether controller is better than mouse and keyboard... If you had drastically different skill based players maybe.. If players are of equal skill or experience I dont think it is even a contest... I for one have never ever seen a pad user in a pc gaming tournament ever.
Mouse and keyboard once adjusted to allow you to control any game to a greater degree.
Pretty much every single multiplat console game has looked better on the "non-optimized" PC platform.. I think people sometimes confuse the how much power you can get out of optimizing console hardware. Putting race gas in a Honda isnt magically going to make it outperform a Porsche.
Consoles may be the standard for graphical quality moving forward, but they also have been the bottleneck of what can be achieved.
I am wondering what more can be done that Devs havnt been able to do on PC? At this point we will be seeing higher textures, higher resolution, more AA and AS, and more detail across the board.... My question is how is this any different than what PC is doing already? If all we are seeing is better textures and a resolution bump is that enough to drive next gen?
I am really hoping they make more interesting games rather than just moving the graphic settings from medium to hig...
They were blindsided because they are always working on several first party titles at once.
The free to play games you are getting with the ps4 through PS+ will still cost you additional money... You need to purchase cars and tracks to get what you want out of the game.. otherwise it is going to be a shallow demo.
Also , I think people are underestimating what parents are going to think when they go into a store to buy a new console... If someone goes into gamestop and wants to get a gift .. They are going to look for the system that doesnt cost that as much as the ...
I think people are underestimating the value of what you get with the Wii U.
X1
Console: 500
Online Play:60
Game:60
Total: 620
Value here is the Kinect and robustness of Live and exclusives from MSFT.
PS4
Console: 400
Online: 60
Game: 60
Total: 520 (add additional 60 for motion gaming)
You do get bonus value here because PSN+ will be giving you free to...
The whole point of the WW remake was to give the Wii U owners a zelda game to keep them busy while they develop the next one. Nintendo has said that Zelda U is going to take a while to develop so while you wait you get a remake of WW.
PS4 and the x1 are going to cannibalize each other sales this holiday season. They aren't going to launch as successfully as they have in the past. Also we don't even know if Nintendo or retailers are going to slash prices of the Wii u come holiday season.
People also need to remember all these games were 100% completed on other consoles.. All EA did was get them to work on the Wii U with gamepad support...
Others have stated that the Wii U is similar to the Xbox 360 to make games for since they share powerpc architecture. How much money did it honestly take them to convert existing game assets to the Wii U?
You do realize that the Wii U has an install base of less than 4 million? Did you expect a late port of Madden or Mass 3 to sell 2 to 3 million copies when Nintendoland and New Super Mario U only sold 1-2 million each?
A good game like Halo and or COD attach at a rate of 10 to 20% on an install base of 77 Million... Zombie U not including digital copies sold roughly 400k (according to vchartz).. Which is in line with what COD and HALO attach at on the respective consoles.
The last time EA genuinely tried on a Nintendo platform was BOOMBLOX.
I am not naive .. I understand that Nintendo consumers aren't HUGE EA fans and generally don't flock to the WII U for the next Madden. But their lack of effort, timing, and pricing affects their image in the eyes of potential consumers..
What does it say for the image of your company if you are releasing half baked games on one platform at a higher price than the others.. How is so...
It is pretty obvious that EA from day one wanted to DRM and put Origin on anything it could get it hands on. Nintendo was eager enough to listen through the process of developing Nintendo Network. EA is and has been bitter ever since Nintendo decided that it was financially and professional in their best interests not to relinquish control of its online infrastructure to EA.
The way EA has treated Nintendo since its "unprecedented" partnership is flat out shameful ...
No one has made anything for the Wii U yet to really show what it can do.. All it has shown right now is that it is more than capable of running late stage last gen games fairly easily.
We cant properly evaluate the graphical difference until we see a next gen multi platform titles come to the Wii U OR someone make a game from the ground up on the Wii U..
For Nintendo this system is next gen because it is a substantial upgrade over the Wii... And if you think...
That is why it is 39.99... full price retail games are 59.99 the game is a full 20 less than a normal retail game.. Let's not forget all wario games are like this also just senseless fun minigames.
Were you expecting the last of us? This game is just a stop gap along with Luigi DLC.
Sony did a great job of talking to devs and working through what everyone wanted.
One thing that is really going to help them A LOT is that AMD wont have any issues with production. There wont be any bottlenecks in developing the APU because AMD is already shipping similar items on a massive scale daily.
Good Partnership in the long run I think.
Off screen play is an amazing feature no matter how many people are discounting it.
Rayman and Nintendoland have used the second screen the best so far. And as far as repeating the wait for games line. I think we need to wait until holiday 2014 before declaring it a failure. They have a lot of first party coming out soon.
