What I learned from E3 2010:
1: My 360 is going through an identity crisis and has a serious case of Wii Envy.
2: MS is quickly losing touch with their fanbase.
3: Nintendo is finally getting back into touch with their fanbase.
4: ES was way over hyped... again
I too was quite disappointed not seeing Gambit's name on that list.
The most important thing is that online play is still free so no one is being forced to subscribe. Everything in Plus is extra and the free games alone could be used to justify the price for many.
It should say, "wasn't bad for the first half hour, but then turned into a train wreck". But for MS it really isn't all that bad. Sure all of the hardcore gamers are pretty pissed and disappointed (myself included). That being, the casuals already seem to be eating Kinect up and with the slimmer 360 MS is undoubtedly seeing their strongest sales in a long time. At the end of a day, that money is all MS cares about, not how gamers feel about things.
If this turns out to be true it pretty much dashes any hope of Kinect being utilized in traditional hardcore games in unison with a controller. Maybe this is why there was no word on the preveiously announced Fable 3 Kinect integration.
Watching the demonstration it gave me a bit of a kid friendly Fable vibe, and that's not a bad thing.
I'm starting to wonder if they are just going to push it to the wayside and act like it was never announced, it really can't have too many useful applications.
Sony's conference had its ups and downs. I thought they spent way too much time talking and too much focus on 3D and Move. The Move presentation was much better than MS's Kinetic presentation but still didn't do much to interest me, especially when I say the pricing. Would have like a few more game reveals that were not Move based but Twisted Metal was awesome, especially seeing all of the City destruction. And on top of that, Kevin Butler's appearance was AWESOME!
Ah, I retract my previous statement. I obviously did not read thoroughly enough. Too much skimming of all of these E3 news stories. Good to know.
The main problem with this is if someone chooses to pay for cross game chat they will only be able to chat with their other friends who have PSN plus. It limits the feature for those that have it. Hopefully that is not the case and PSN plus subscribers can initiate cross game chat with people who are not subscribers.
Nintendo's conference had plenty of surprise games. In my eyes Nintendo dominated this year although this E3 was way over hyped.
No Agent, no Versus, no Ape Escape...
I can't say that I am not massively disappointed in the press conference so far... Apart from Kevin Butler this has been boring. Too much monotone talking!
They finally did an E3 right. They had some casual stuff in there but kept it at a minimum and didn't dwell on it too long. No demonstrations of shovelware or Cammy make this easily their best E3 in recent memory.
Nintendo did set the bar pretty damn high today. Who would have thought they would have announced more core games than MS. I'm pretty pumped about E3 now after yesterday's terrible beginning, can't wait to see Sony's conference.
Best E3 showing from Nintendo in years. New Zelda, Kirby and Donkey Kong games. Metroid, Goldeneye, and an Epic Mickey demo. And best of all... no Cammy! Nintendo just destroyed MS and set a pretty high bar for Sony. This is what E3 is suppossed to be.
No matter what you thought of MS's conference yesterday, there is no doubt that Nintendo just blew MS out of the water. New Zelda with gameplay demo, Golden Sun footage, a Goldeneye remake, an Epic Mickey demo, Metroid: the Other M, new Kirby and Donkey Kong games, the unveiling of the 3DS and Kid Icarus. I was disappointed in MS's conference yesterday, now I am just appalled
It started off good enough with COD, Gears, Halo, etc but when it switched to Kinect I lost all interest. I was streaming the conference instead of working and actually got so bored I went back to working.
That'd be nice. The problem though, is that it's not Sony's idea to charge for the service and I doubt they will be getting much revenue, if any at all. So in order to work out a deal to offer it for free they would probably have to provide Hulu with a percentage of the revenue from PSN+ subscriptions.
