The first playthrough is all about taking the time to explore and experience everything. Anything you get during that first play is a bonus.
Second runs though are where the trophies/achievements make it interesting.
Trophies & Achievements are great, but I think that there is one huge flaw.
The flaw is having them present in multiplayer.
For many gamers including myself, collecting these types of things have become a pretty fun & challenging thing to do, but to not be able to get them all because of a game demanding that you be in first place 3 times in a row in MP, makes things a bit unfair to the collection whore.
Probably one of the very few here that actually really like RE5.
I would prefer though that the next installment go back to the classic survival horror style by putting you in complete solitude.
No more mandatory co-op, AI or otherwise.
there was also some bad that I hope they fix.
For me the game was great until I got very close to the end. I just couldn't finish it, it all became way too repetitive and I lost interest. It was honestly one of the first games for me to do this with, playing that far into it and not being able to finish it I mean.
The design, graphics, controls, comic style were all fantastic though and I'll definitely give the sequel a shot.
I'm thinking Agent will be shown on Sony's floor as well.
Maybe some new footage/gameplay of L.A. Noire?
PS2 was the console that had the most games last gen, but it also was the place for a lot of shovelware... much like the Wii has this gen.
I think where the PS3 excels is in that it has placed an emphasis on quality, rather than quantity this time around. The PS3 really has an upscale feel about it compared to other consoles regardless of generation.
I like all the systems but I really think Sony is on to some great things with their current direction of the...
hurry up and announce them, release them, and I will buy asap.
But I'd like to see Nintendo take this opportunity to close out the Wii, and make a return to the hardcore with a new HD/3D era console.
With the casual market success they've had though I have my doubts. Nintendo is now a house hold name with Grandparents for cryin' out loud.
But I say go for it, and leave Sony & Microsoft to fight over sloppy seconds. I would give the big N another chance if they took the hardcore seriously again on a co...
I've never heard of a "piece of kit" before ;)
but yeah I would agree that Red Dead stole alot of it's thunder.
Not everyone has the cash to fork over for multiple new releases on day 1. I fortunately did and am enjoying them both.
But the majority of gamers I think would rather spend the $60 on a 20-30hr single player with a large online component over Wake.
Nevertheless I really hope it does well as I want a sequel and for Remedy to be able to upstart another project. Just not a 6...
I ask to all of those "art direction > graphics" folks.
What the hell does art direction even mean if they can't deliver with great graphics.
IMO they go hand in hand.
The lack of weapon/enemy variety didn't cross my mind once during the entire play through. The atmosphere was that good in my opinion.
Clunky platforming is there though and could have been a bit better. Alan Wake does NOT like to jump.
Man, I would be all over that.
and I thought it was excellent. Sure, it has some minor issues, but overall I give it a good 8.5
Truth be told though, I just was talking to a couple of people at work who only have 360's and neither one of them had even heard of this game.
What are they playing you might ask? Modern Warfare 2.
True story, case closed.
I was willing to keep an open mind about it because the concept was interesting, but my gut instinct said bargain bin from the get go and turns out it was spot on.
Acutally, I'm not even sure if this is bargain bin material... too many negatives here to warrant a purchase of any kind.
looked like it could of been released as one of the first 360 games. It was my first Halo multiplayer experience... color me unimpressed.
I do agree that the planet scanning in ME2 was an awful decision. I haven't tried it since the patch though. It apparently speeds things up a bit.
I think the controls can be a little clunky in Red Dead, but the amount of things that R* gets right in this one far exceed their shortcomings.
1. Red Dead Redemption
2. God of War 3
3. Mass Effect 2
4. Alan Wake
5. Heavy Rain
So yeah, pretty much every blockbuster title released this year so far.
I personally enjoyed Alan Wake more than Heavy Rain, but both are excellent in their own way.
Twice for me a hogtie victim had completely disappeared while on the ground, and that was after installing the patch. Also my horse constantly runs away from me after I pick herbs, skin animals etc.... whistling for him works though so it's not that big a deal.
The game does far more things right rather than wrong though and I like it more and more each time I play.
but I think that a deep leveling up system is better suited for MP rather than trophies/achievements.
Also, for single player portions of games I'd rather have one section on my console that displays how many games I've completed %100.
Not all games track your stats.
