What is catching up is mobile technology catching up to non mobile consoles. Eventually the cost of increasing the power of regular consoles will no longer be cost efficient and mobile technology. The issue is that we shouldn't expect the Switch to perform the same as the PS4 and XBOne. To be fair, profit is a way to put revenue in context. just as cost alone isn't very valuable, neither is revenue. The whole picture of all 3 is what is important.
Revenues are important in the total market as the article suggests as a reflection on health of the overall market, but profits are what drives future development. Remember the PS3 being unprofitable for years?
I will occasionally support a mobile game that I have enjoyed, but typically only with Google Rewards app money. Great app, if anyone hasn't heard of it. I've spent about $50 reward money on mobile games/apps, and maybe another $3-5 of my own money in the past. If you enjoy a game and spend any time on it, it's not a hard sell to support in a small way. When people take it to the extreme, it gets ridiculous.
