I don't know how that compression stuff works! All I know is the game's 22gbs on PS3 and that 2 DVDs =/= 22gbs. Also, Carmack mentioned some special DVD compression tools MS let them use for Rage.
He also said he would have liked to use the full dual-layered BD, but that it would have been a hugely different development process and that it would take too long, too much resources, and basically too many headaches to make it happen now. Oh well....

Carmack said that the worst case scenario for playing Rage would be on the 360 off the DVD, no install. Even though BD read speeds are slower, the information's less compressed as on DVDs. Difference is, now you only get R3 if you pre-order. The bundle was originally supposed to be R3 + the 3DTV, but they changed the game to Motorstorm instead. So if you want a free copy of R3 with the TV, then you better pre-order!

I don't play MAG anymore, but I easily regard it as the best online experience I ever had. The depth to that game was just incredible. From the command structure and leadership abilities, to the game modes with layered objectives that necessitated teamwork to prevail, and the weapons and skill trees you could tailor to your specific play style and abilities; add on to that the great community of clans and people who actively posted on Zipper'...

The game I played most online was MAG. Occasionally there were douchebags, but it was easy to find a good group of people and just join their clan, so it wasn't a problem.
