No they didn't, Sony licensed the idea and use of it from Player Unknown. The same as Bluehole. They were both licensed products. Both devs respected Greene's rights to the original game mode concept and mod he had made and he worked on both games (still working on one of them). Fortnite does not have a license with Greene which is why the situation is different. Now you can't be too shocked that after being treated with respect from Sony and Bluehole he would expect the same from...

@rainslacker He was not employed by anyone when he made the game mode / genre. Which means he and he alone owns all of that work. Sony licensed the Battle Royale mode from Greene as well as just employing him so their rights are pretty bulletproof. I believe Bluehole did the same. So it's not really anything like your example. It would be more like Cliff making Gears of War and then licensing it out to Sony. It's unlikely that license gives Sony ownership rights of the Battle Royale g...

You need a history lesson. Brendan Greene (Player Unknown) made the original mod. Sony (now Daybreak) hired him as a contractor to bring a battle royale mode to H1Z1. Then Bluehole approached Greene asking if he would give them his blessing to make the battle royale game they have wanted to make and asked if he would be a part of it and he said yes. PUBG was born. It's the same guy who has worked on all the games / game modes. That's not how a rip off works. Sony and Bluehole paid hi...

Yup, last month was great for PC. The most critically acclaimed games were PC exclusives. Divinity (currently joint 2nd highest rated PC game of all time) and Warhammer 2 and we also got other greats like Cuphead. It's definitely a good time to game on PC.

I tried the open beta as I prefer the historical setting to the modern and near future settings but I just couldn't get into it. I don't think the call of duty formula works for me anymore. I did have some stuttering with SLI enabled although I haven't downloaded the latest nvidia drivers for this game so it might already be dealt with.

I will probably pick this one up after Divinity 2. It does look really nice.

Bloodborne is the best PS4 exclusive in my book, it's in a different league to the others. I doubt it will come to PC but I wouldn't mind if it did. It would probably upset a lot of PS4 fans though so I'm not sure why Sony would want to do it.

I've followed the games since the DayZ mods and because of that Player Unknown will always sit as the father of the genre in my mind. That doesn't mean I don't think other people can make their own games, but I definitely think he was instrumental in the genre. Which is why Sony contracted him for H1Z1 and Bluehole employed him for Pubg.

@EDMIX I own all platforms, I will probably still wait for it to come out on PC like I did with GTA V. This might be harder for me though as I like RDR more than I liked the GTA games but I have 582 games on Steam and half of them I haven't even played yet. My list of killer games I need to find the time to play is getting bigger and bigger.

I'm still only at the beginning of Horizon and Zelda BoTW. Put them both down to play Divinity. Still got Dark Souls 3 DLC to ...

As much as I like Divinity and am looking forward to playing Divinity 2, It is a PC exclusive and I can't remember the last time one of the big sites gave a PC exclusive game of the year regardless of what they scored it. It's a popularity contest unfortunately.

I'm currently playing through both Divinity 1 and BoTW and have put Zelda to one side as I can't put down Divinity and it's fun to experiment with combat system.

PUBG has sold better on PC (12.5 million - http://steamspy.com/app/578... alone than any PS4 exclusive. It may be a big platform but so is the PC and games have a shorter shelf life on consoles. Where games like CS:GO and Dota 2 go on for years and years with a large playerbase on PC.

I don't think how this game performs on Consoles will have much of an impact on whether it survives or not. It's already...

It has sold over 12 million copies. More than any exclusive game has on any platform this gen on PC alone and has smashed the concurrent players records on Steam. When was the last time a game beat Dota 2 in concurrent players and then died? Everything at the very top of that list on Steam has stayed that way for years. Will it still be the same case for non Valve games, can they have the same life span? Who knows.

Yup, I hope you guys get a console version as well. Never really cared for exclusivity, I own all platforms so it doesn't really matter to me but I still kinda wish everybody got to play whatever they wanted. Just my unrealistic non business opinion.

Ah that's awesome, looking forward to giving it a go. Thanks for the answers :)

These are very PC oriented RPGs but as long as they can get the controls working and their is a demand for it I don't see why not.

Currently playing through the first one and am having a blast. I hope the few nagging issues I have with it are fixed in the sequel. Non unified inventory makes crafting and inventory management a bit of a chore, the camera recenters on your character after you fire a skill off which sometimes makes me move instead of attack when I follow up too quickly. Apart from that I am loving the first game and will pick this one up when I finish it.

4K/60/Ultra rigs are rare, you're right on that. Then again not every console gamer will own an Xbox one X and I imagine the same thing will happen there. With half the user base cheering it on and the other half downplaying it's lead. I mean it's happening now before it has even launched.

The important part of PC is no matter where you stand currently your games have the potential to be much better graphically as time goes on. I currently have 2 980s in my rig ...

I don't think they are, they differentiated quite a lot from the mod they built their mod on top of. DayZ. Fast forward to release and the formula is still very much the same, it works and they sold 12 million copies so far making it THE best selling exclusive game on any platform this gen. I think they are just sour that this came from their partners and not from someone else trying to cash in on their success.

I think he has just been respected by other developers in ...

The zombies sadly have never been an important part of DayZ. I played an upcoming build at Gamescom this year which is miles better than what we currently have though. DayZ is finally moving forward. Sadly the zombies still didn't really feel like a threat.

The PUBG mods came out 2 years before H1Z1. The real inspiration behind it is the movie and DayZ.
