Being number one doesn't make it a monopoly, Sony isn't a monopoly today just because they are on top. Microsoft probably wouldn't be number one with Activision either, I doubt that would place them ahead of Nintendo or Sony. I think it's a real stretch to say this acquisition would make things a monopoly, but I do agree a trend of this continuing to happen could turn into a monopoly situation.
They all use the same parts, and the parts have a limited lifetime, they should just make them easily replaceable.
It's not really true of every industry, I'm in business software development and we don't really have a culture of crunch and the salaries are quite similar to game development. Game Dev is a passion industry and so can get away with a bit more as people really want to do the work.
I just checked the latest survey and it's still the case that not many developers are paid for overtime. 12% of game devs surveyed reported being paid for overtime in 2021
A lot of the time they are working for free. Not all contracts pay you for overtime.
Because it is that way on PC and Console. Pretty much any new game that's coming out that isn't exclusive to any one store can be found cheaper on sites like greanmangaming than Steam. Just like you can shop around for physical console games at Target or Walmart or whichever store. Those stores compete against each other and so the price of the product goes down. I don't understand why that is hard to understand. It's basic competition.
It's not like EA ...
How are they competing when selling an exclusive, they are the only ones who can sell it. No other store can offer the consumer a lower price, no other store can offer better features (remote play, controller remapping, workshop, cloud saves). There is no reason for these stores to improve things for the consumer if they are the only store allowed the goods.
"Secondly, one store getting an exclusive drives the other stores to do something themselves to counter it, aka,...
On the off chance that you're being serious, there is nothing competitive about any games being exclusive to any stores. We want games to be available across all storefronts. Forcing us to use one is not competitive. It's like saying utilities are competitive as there are multiple companies, even if they all stay off each others turf.
They're welcome to try, PC Gamers are also welcome to just ignore them.
@Butt. I don't think you've got it at all. I simply don't believe the extra $50 to the price will make up for the lower sales they will get. I imagine more and more people who were holding off for stock drops of the PS5 will just buy the cheaper and in stock Series X.
Nah, AMD and Nvidia have both failed in the low end because why sell low margin cards when there is a chip shortage and you can't meet the demand for high end cards. Same thing the car industry is doing, as soon as supply is limited they make less budget options as they don't want to cut into their own profits.
Passing the cost onto consumers while they are more price sensitive than usual is stupid. Good way of reducing sales and therefore profit.
Sony isn't very profitable?
I doubt it, they just want more gamepass subs and this does not further that goal.
Let us know when the usual suspects arrive!
@EvertonFC Are you joking, how is it selfish if I think it should be optional if they add it, it's more selfish if trophy lovers want it to be required just so we all have trophies. Sign in if you want them, don't if you don't.
I personally would rather not have this or for it to be optional as I don't care about trophies and don't want to have to login before playing singleplayer games.
I mean there definitely are more gaming monitors with this set of features, but none that are priced below this. If you compare just to the same feature set it's actually priced well, not to say that should make it worth it to you, if you don't need all these features why pay the premium.
Well you complained that the fight was too easy, they provide you the tools to make the difficulty whatever you want. It's like picking an easy difficulty in a regular game and complaining it's not hard enough. I played through the game without summons as I wanted that challenge, although I did summon a mirror mimic in that fight after not being able to beat it for a very long time.
They have a long way to go, Nvidia is at nearly 80% market share and gaining according to the steam hardware survey.
