I am aware that the 7990 is dGPU but there are quadfire setups out there (two 7990's in crossfire)

You're right on the 8xxx, I typo'd that, I meant to write 9xxx and my comment was based on a forum thread I was reading over at Tom's Hardware which I misread so overall, that w...

Well, the PS4 has a weak CPU and a 1.84 TFLOP GPU.

Back in 2008, an HD 4870 already rocked 2.40 TFLOPS of computing power.

Today, a single HD 7990 cranks out 8.20 TFLOPS of computing power before we even talk about multi-carded setups and overclocking. That's 445% more computing power just for a single card.

On September 5th AMD announced their first of the 8xxx series of cards with more to come in the coming months.

It makes sense to me, all the multiplatform pc titles for the last 6-7 years have been designed to run on ps3/360 too so the min requirements have been pretty low. With the new consoles, we're going to suddenly see some pretty horsepower intensive games coming to market which will inspire many to upgrade imho.

PS4's CPU is made of two 1.6Ghz-4 core Jaguar Kabini processors with 2mb cache each, stitched together (8 cores, 4mb cache total)

The A4-5000 processor @1.5 Ghz is also a 4 core Jaguar Kabini processor with 2MB of cache - passmark score - 1139

His statement is correct if you are looking at the whole world of PCs. There are literally hundreds of millions of computers actively being used in the world and PS4 will likely outperform 90% of them which would qualify for calling it a high end system.

However, the definition of a high end pc is completely different for an enthusiast. For an enthusiast, the bare bones, budget, entry level pc would outperform 85% of the PCs being used in the world.

The PS4/XB1 8-core CPUs are running at 1.6Ghz and have a total of 4MB of cache.

Two 4-core A4-5000 (at 1.5Ghz and 2MB of cache each) would be a better estimate than two a6-5200 (at 2Ghz and 4MB of cache each).

Can you play Civilization, Total War, Starcraft, Command and Conquer, DotA, etc on a console? So what's your point then? PC enthusiasts wouldn't have to say anything if "ps4's GPU is a beast" articles would just stop.

7950, now $190, likely a lot less by christmas when you can actually buy a PS4.

Frankly, I am kind of sick of the talk in the industry about the sexist portrayal of women in games not because it is wrong but because it is SO one sided. Seriously, I could get on board if the discussion recognized that the portrayal of ALL characters is sexist not just women but it doesn't. No where does anyone mention that the everyday man doesn't exactly look like Kratos from God of War or Marcus from Gears of War just to name a couple of prominent characters.

@Cuzzo
The incorrect assumption you are making is that Micro changed their policies because of Sony and we all have to be thankful to Sony because of it.

Sony has set it's policies and Microsoft is being forced to change it's policies because of the freedoms that indie devs have in the pc world. Too many restrictions, rules and regulations and the indie devs simply don't bother.

@Cuzzo
The point that everyone is making and that you aren't seeing yet is Sony and Microsoft didn't pave anything. The indie movement started as a two track horse buggy path on pc and developed into a major multi-laned super highway MANY years before Sony or Microsoft did anything. Sony and Microsoft, at best, have built little side roads off of it.

Latency isn't the time taken to transfer a block of data, it's the time it takes to START transferring the data.

For the GPU this tends to not be much of an issue, it makes far fewer requests for data but those requests tend to be for large chunks of data so the time it takes to start transferring data isn't as important as how fast that data can actually be moved. That's why you use GDDR5 memory for graphics, it's slow to start moving the data but it ca...
