At the beginning of last gen there were still tube TVs in stores and most people still had a tube TVs at home. There were HDTVs at the time but we would call those sub-HD today and they were damn expensive, more than $2000 for even the off-brand models. Sorry but $2000 for a decent UHD TV is pretty good in my opinion.

The fact of the matter is that today's HD vs UHD is yesterday's SD vs HD but there is one very important distinction. Yesterday's consoles outper...

If a PC outperforming a ps4 doesn't matter then a ps4 outperforming a ps3 doesn't matter either.

Worst logic ever.

@Volkama
I did see The Hobbit at 48fps in theater and did feel it looked weird and I have spent a lot of time thinking about why including an additional screening of the 48fps version.

Some people attribute it to the fact that we are trained to watch film at 24fps since we have done it all our lives but this has never been an explanation which has sat well with me since I have always enjoyed gaming at higher framerates so much. After a lot of thought I think I f...

I agree with some of your sentiment, looking at Metacritic I see 4 scores below 60 which are probably harsh but I also see 4 scores above 85 which are probably optimistic.

Where I disagree with you is in your assessment of the overall score. When I scroll through metacritic, I only see 7 reviews out of 46 that are above 80 and only 4 of those are above 85. I also see 26 reviews out of 46 that are below 80, 16 of those are 70 or lower, 8 of those are 60 or lower and 4 are 50...

yeah, they 'optimized' it by using lower resolution textures, fewer different textures on screen at any one time, a narrow color gamut, lower bit count, etc because they only had 256MB to work with.

These guys are 'optimizing' this texture pack for PCs with large amounts of VRAM to accommodate people at the high end of gaming which I HIGHLY encourage and applaud.

You have 3Gb of VRAM? Then select the high texture setting which has been 'o...

You're preaching to the choir livininsin, you are preaching to the choir! lol

@deividas
Textures are just pictures applied to 3d objects and higher resolution pictures take up more space so more VRAM is needed. I can't think of how you would 'optimize' this.

I personally applaud them as loud and hard as I can! Here is a company that is giving the pc gaming community exactly what they want, a game that will push their hardware and let you see what it can actually do.

And nobody is 'f%$ked'. There's no rule that says you are forced to buy new hardware the moment any game comes out that requires you to move any setting to anything less than ultra.

Just like consoles, when you buy a pc you acquire a sna...

Just upgraded my PC last month and started mining cryptocurrency (bitcoin, litecoin). Cost me just over $1500 to build a MONSTER rig and it will be paid off in less than a year through mining. I'm now looking at annual upgrades and still MAKING money. Sorry, consoles lose the cost argument by a mile.

Sony is good at crafting pretty "trailers" but as usual, the ACTUAL graphics and gameplay is no where near the promise.

@cemelc
Let me try to spell this out for you.

First point: The build I posted is a complete build which, 6 years from now, will still play games at a higher fidelity than the ps4. It obviously won't be able to do the latest greatest graphics but it will still be several times more powerful than the ps4 and since, like this past generation, games will again be held back so they can still run on consoles, it will still run these games and much better than the ps4...

This price/performance myth of consoles is seriously still alive?!

PS4 - $400
1 game/month ($60) for 6 years (console generation length) - $4320
Online fee for 6 years - $300
Total - $5020

PC - $1316

1 game.month ($50) for 6 years - $3600

@ultimatemaster

When the ps3/360 was released, the vast majority of TVs were SD but half way into the generation 1080p sets were common and now 1080p is expected and the PS4/XBOne can barely hit 60fps let alone higher resolutions. You are looking back in time not forward.

ALL 4k TVs ever manufactured are capable of displaying 30fps, not "sub 30fps" as you allude to. Any TV that displays the UHD logo is required to accept and display 3840x2160 @ 60f...

"Why come visit a PS4 article anyway if PC gaming is so superior?"

Ummm... this article specifically compares the PC and PS4.

The PS4/XBOne are releasing at the beginning of the UHD revolution but they are having trouble hitting 1080p @60fps. The PS3/360 released at the begining of the HD revolution but they didn't have any problems outputting greater than SD resolutions and framerates.

Actually, Starcraft and Civilization are just examples of games from two entire genres that don't even exist on consoles, Real Time Strategy and 4X Strategy. You may be able to list a handful of individual titles that aren't on PC but consoles are missing complete genres!

First things first. There is absolutely NOTHING, N-O-T-H-I-N-G, tehnologically advanced about putting a GPU and CPU on one piece of silicon. The chip is just a bigger single unit versus two smaller units and it forces ridiculous shortcomings ie the cpu has only 4mb of L2 cache to share amongst 8 processors and NO L1 or L3 cache, and doesn't even incorporate any SSE5 instruction sets like XOP, FMA4, and CVT16 which AMD implemented on their desktop processors in 2009! Two compute units ha...
