I already said in my comment that drivers auto update themselves these days, there is nothing to tweak or worry about. ANd you don't NEED to build a PC, it is just the cheapest, you can still buy decent rigs easy. And PCs arent the only ones that get updates....consoles get their firmware/dashboard updates and the games getting updates happens too...It is NEVER instant if it's an MP game. It seems like everytime I boot my PS3 there is a long ass firmware ...

@gamingdroid

The graphics card is the most expensive part of a well balanced gaming PC.

CPU ~ 100-200
4GB RAM ~ 50
Mobo ~ 100-150
HDD ~ 50
PSU ~ 90
Case(if previous one isn't wanted) ~ 50
Win 7 ~ 90
Wireless KB/M (If you don't already have a set) ~60

With this kind of PC with a 250 dollar video card like the 560ti, you could play BF3 at 1080 DX11 with max settings and get around ...

You bought two 6990s and you are saying you "hope" you can max it out? You could max out Skyrim at 1600P with just ONE of those cards....

6990's in XF should nuke the game. What is faster than this? dual 590? Quad 580s? lol

Skyrim looks decent but the only thing that is harder to render than Witcher 2 is Skyrim being a larger, true open world. Witcher 2 has much better graphics and much more dense worlds, but it is not truly open world. You get world "sections" to roam in Witcher 2. These world sections are still much larger than any other game besides open-world games though so don't get me wrong.

I am guessing that Witcher 2 will remain more difficult to render at max than skyrim...

@B1663r

Doesn't that support his argument?

Scenario 1
PC - $300
Console $300

Scenario 2
PC - $600

Might as well go with scenario 2. Get your normal PC needs but also get a PC that can handle most games at 1080P and 60FPS.

Of course I went with getting an awesome PC, 360, PS3 because I can afford it. Get everything PC except for the exclusives on the consoles. But if I had more limi...

That makes no sense....You don't HAVE to upgrade so what cost is there?

Console IS a sub par experience too when it comes to graphics. Do you buy console just so you screw yourself over with the purchase and can say "well, there is nothing I can do, I have a console so that's it!" Even if you went PC, you can still have console graphics and mods.

When they "max" a console and you play the game, well that game is NOT running at &quo...

But you only have to upgrade if you want it to look AMAZING.

You don't have to upgrade a PC to play the game at the same quality the console version has, you only need to if you want to look more and more better than the console...

New games these days aren't needing higher requirements (hell look at rage's super simple requirements). The only thing that is increasing on PC games is the requirements you would need to MAX the game out. But to play ...

Lol BD was a success due to deals with movie content owners (WB), not because of PS3 sales.

"On January 4, 2008, a day before CES 2008, Warner Bros. (the only major studio still releasing movies in both HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc format) announced that it would release only in Blu-ray Disc after May 2008."

That sealed the deal for BD.

Optimization only goes so far though. The consoles still only have 512MB of RAM and Crysis 1 used anywhere between 1.5-2GB when playing. The textures, how many AI can be active at once, vegetation is reduced around 90%, textures and polys are removed/reduced from characters/objects/vehicles...

The only thing that is "better" is the deferred lighting engine that is in Cryengine 3. So that means you can have more lights on screen at once. Of course what sucks about th...

They were sued for anti-competitive tactics and had around 95% and higher market share making them much more of a "monopoly" than Steam.

Steam/Valve isn't doing anything that is anti-competitive (in fact it is Origin/EA who is withholding games/DLC to monopolize revenue from its games/DLC by blocking its sale elsewhere and only available on Origin, a major issue when it comes to content owner/content provider being the same entity). And Steam accounts for around...

Monopoly.....GOG.com, D2D, Gamestops digital download, GFWL........there are other DD methods out there that are doing well.

Also, steeper discounts???? Have you seen the discounts on steam??? They are HUGE. The only time you don't see huge discounts are on Activision/EA games since they don't agree to such huge discounts on their games. That's the content owner's fault, not steam/valve.

But it is one sale they cant count on getting all 60 bucks from and won't add to the success of origin as a sale point. Buying retail will only give a portion to EA since there will be distro-cost for the disc and retails cut on the game as well.

I am not twisting anything. In fact, you just did lol. What you think looks "amazing" just looks good. Until you play on a good PC, you don't know what you are missing.

Who cares if your game looks the same as your friends. Does everyone have to have the same version/quality so no ones feelings get hurt? WHO CARES if your friends game looks worse or better. That's no reason to buy a weaker/less versatile system...

So your friend got ripped o...

Why is it if someone offers counter points and facts, it is taken as "personal"?

Sounds more like you both have no counter point to my argument and instead go for ad hominem. Should expect nothing else from N4G users I suppose...

And yes, the PS3 does support M/KB and I think that is great. The down side is almost no dev takes advantage of that...

Your buddy's looks worse because his PC is not as good as yours. All consoles do is FORCE you to be stuck at low graphics while PC lets you stay with your older PC and low, console-like graphics OR lets you upgrade and surpass the console graphically. Not to mention PC allows for mods and multiple controller options, etc.

Variety? Goto Steampowered.com and sort by genres. PC has the most variety. PC has platforming, fighters, 3D action games (lol duh) and jrpgs as well......

5395d ago 7 agree7 disagreeView comment

I wouldn't say the ONLY reason, just one of the reasons. Most games are multiplat and going PC will get you the better version of the games/ip's you like.

5395d ago 6 agree7 disagreeView comment

Every reason is flawed...

1. If you buy a console and it has a certain performance level, and then you buy a PC with the same specs/performance (which you can't really do anymore since PC is so far ahead). Well now your PC is just like the console. When a new game comes out, say like Crysis 2, you don't need to upgrade your computer to play it at the same settings the console is at. Crysis 2 when set to its lowest settings (console settings) and 720P STILL looks somew...
