At this point, the next gen consoles need a minimum of 4GB, AT LEAST.

My computer has 4GB of system ram and 1.5GB of video RAM. I will soon upgrade to 8GB of system ram when games get to that point (which we are getting close). But this is my computer NOW. What will it be when the next gen consoles are out?

If the PS4 does another non-unified RAM setup, then they should be minimum 4GB system and 1GB video memory.

Look, devs only get a portion of the 256/256 RAM in the PS3. Some is reserved for the XMB and PS3OS while the game runs. Quite a while back Sony reduced the OS footprint and gave the extra space to devs. Well, they need to do this again and try to get the XMB/OS even smaller and more efficient but NOT give the extra ram to devs, and instead implement the cross-game chat feature.

The last SPU is locked for manufacturing yield reasons, meaning a large portion of the PS3s out there can't run that SPU stably.

A similar thing is done with all other processors. You have a wafer of lets say 64 Cell processors. 48 of them fail testing all 8 SPU's but pass a 7 SPU test. These goto PS3 (even though they aren't fully working Cells, the PS3 calls for only 7). The others that passed all 8 working goto server processor sales, a few chips that only have...

I remember that thread on reddit. His example sucks because a simple, TRUE, ONE TIME activation would stop the scenario he proposed. Not this BS that Ubisoft is doing with always needing the internet and being a major inconvenience to the consumer; not to mention it makes the product WORSE than a pirated version.

Also his talk about internal data doesn't go well with what other companies have said publicly about their own data. DRM does hardly anything and even reduced sa...

PC games usually use much more aggressive compression. (Remember, this kind of compression is lossless such as "zipping" and .7z, we aren't talking about lossy compression like MP3 or DXT1). PC can do this because you install the game and decompress it all one time. While the consoles need to decompress on the fly (especially if streaming, have no compression at all) while you play the game but you can't use up the consoles power decompressing all the time. So PC can get mor...

Skyrim - Many are worried of the simplified RPG/chatacter Development choices. "Streamlining"

ME3 - RPG/character elements were minimized in ME2 while boosting the action side of things. Many are worried the same thing will happen to ME3.

BF3 - Even though there are rumors of commander coming back, issues such as smaller squads, no commander/squad tactics&communication, vehicles with regen health (and players), infinite sprint. I cant wait for B...

Um, you do realize the 360 will look about the same as the minimum requirements of the PC version? Or worse? Your 6870 TRASHES the xbox 360 GPU.

People, just cause you can't max a game out doesn't mean you should get it on console. Console these days = lowest setting on PC or worse...

Just put it to medium-ish at 1080P and you still look way better than console...

"The publisher stated that there would be no DRM with the game other than a one-time-activation. However this seems to have turned out to be a big fat lie as the inclusion of metapoint service Uplay demands DRM. Meaning the user would always have to be connected to the internet to log in to Ubisoft’s and play the game"

I haven't gotten Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood specifically because of this BS. I LOVED AC1 but unlike some gamers, I really will forget...

Omg do want. I wonder how it will look maxed out!!!

Also, this game is fast paced, it could be when they say recommended, it means you need that kind of card to get 60FPS at max settings.

I always think of recommended as the computer you need to max the game out at 1080P and 4x AA (or equivalent) and get 30FPS. But perhaps they are suggesting 60 due to how this is one of the most fast paced games you play these days.

Only affects copies you buy at retail. I read the article but I don't quite follow why it has to be region locked. They need to explain some other details as to why a game being multi disc and splitting languages onto different discs has anything to do with region locking...

360 is 1 DVD, and PC version of games are almost always bigger since they have larger texture resolutions or displacement maps (DX11) or higher poly objects and characters or other things the console don't have.

Well no. Sony let Valve do the steamplay to play with PC and have a connection to Steam. That doesn't involve Sony losing some money.

DLC sold for Portal 2 will be through PSN and Sony will get it's cut. Just like Valve would get it's cut from DLC for BF3 IF EA decided to put the game on Steam. But EA would rather not put the game on Steam and not allow Valve to get it's cut for DLC sales. Same thing goes for XBL and the DLC. You can't get a game on xbox a...

Uh, to be fair, Portal 2 does require PSN. If PSN goes down, you can't play Portal 2 MP. In fact, if either Steam or PSN go down, no Portal 2 MP on the PS3.

Man, you can really tell the HL similarity of artwork with those walkers. I am surprised the artist guy is staying so similar to his work on HL. Still looks interesting though.

It is the simplistic style and type of game world. There really is no floor, if you dig, you can dig incredibly far down before you hit the real "floor". Also, the game world is procedural. And it allows for worlds bigger than any game that exists. The game sucks of a pretty large amount of ram. It defaults to using 495MB of ram (that doesn't include video memory though video memory as high as other games, lol).

The game is about gameplay, exploration, creativit...

There are people who truly cannot deal with it. That's why there are warnings about 3D. Just like how some people get motion sickness in games, and some don't.

You are talking about optimization with the depth buffer, that isn't hard at all as far as taking in a consideration to the design of the engine. Hell, usually there is one already being used. It is implemented easily. Of course there is work to be done with the cursor and menus, but as far as the graphics engine needing to be designed from the beginning with that in mind, that just simply isn't true. It is never too late, in the sense that it wouldn't need the engine to be drasti...
