Tablet CPU? The CPU in the PS4 is one of the best CPU's to come to console, it is an almost full fledged PC CPU. Sony is doing it smart this time and putting in a solid CPU to do CPU work, and get a solid GPU to do GPU work. While the Cell was interesting, it was a pain in the ass to program for and was too expensive for the amount of performance it gave. They should have just spent all those billions on a regular PC cpu that was higher clocked and cores and a slightly beefier GPU, simila...

Everyone needs to realize that UE3 is not some static thing. UE3 in gears of war 1 is way older than the gears of war 3 engine. Even more so, the new consoles are DX11, so when they are using UE3, they are using the version that some PC games have, which is the DX11 version of UE3. Remember this tech demo?

THIS is the kind of UE3 that Thief 4 is using.

To be fair, slow paced games can benefit from better graphics and only 30FPS, especially since movement is slower and you pay attention to smaller details more.

A faced paced shooter or fighting game or racing game definitely benefits from 60FPS and should go that route.

The visual aspect is just part of it. Controller response times are higher at 60fps, you see more information per second which makes fast paced games running at 60fps MUCH more enjoyable and less jerky looking with motion.

Thief doesn't need 60FPS though. I'd rather have 30FPS and better graphics with a slow paced stealth game than 60FPS and graphics turned down.

The PS4 is the second console EVER to have the same CPU architecture as PCs (The only other console was the Original Xbox). Now that a console has a the most common architecture (x86/x64) Developers can build a game once for PC and PS4 (and depending on if the next Xbox is also going x86) and then basically just tweak the settings and level of detail and use any hardware specific benefits (Like the PS4 having GDDR5 RAM and the xbox have 32mb of the EDRAM, etc)

This is great ...

Good point. To put things in perspective. The video card used in the unreal engine 4 demo (GTX 680) had 1536 cores.

It really goes to show consoles really need a leap to catch up with current tech.

It sounds like an MMO in the sense of Planetside 2. Planetside 2 just feels like Battilefield with a map that is 16x the size of the largest battlefield map and has at most 2,000 players on one battlefield. I was impressed as hell with it. Even the graphics shares similar things that frostbite 2 and cryengine 3 have like realtime GI.

Anyways, Destiny sounds like Planetside 2 but with more freedom to change to other areas (planets) since you are exploring together in a skyrim ...

One thing you have to consider is that PC's are sold at a profit while consoles are sold at a loss.

This would mean a pre-built PC that costs $800 to make and is sold for $900-$1,100 can have the same performance as a console that costs $800 to make and is sold for $600.

I don't think this was even real time. You can tell from the side mirrors and the general clarity of the car reflection that ray/pathtracing is being used. As you said, a PC equipped with a GTX 680 would struggle to get 30 FPS at 720P with that quality of tracing/motion blur/HDR.

It won't look this good, you can tell from the side mirrors and the general clarity of the car reflection that ray/pathtracing is being used. Even a PC equipped with a GTX 680 would struggle to get 30 FPS at 720 with that quality of tracing/motion blur/HDR.

Questing and looting is part of the RPG genre, not MMO. Skyrim has questing and looting, Fable has questing and looting. MMO literally just means massively multiplayer online, meaning a HUGE amount of people playing online.

It would be better to compare BL2 to something like planetside or some other FPSMMO, even then it is not a good comparison.

N4G show these at the top because the N4G USERS are the ones making the topic hot. The topic makes know this and use it to get to the top.

There are AMAZING mods out there but it's the idiot users and the topic makers making of use the N4G base clicking on these!

Sorry for the long post but need to list the facts.

D3, one of the few exceptions to the rule. I will quote myself:

"MP is usually service independent"

Most the time they don't have a service. Yes, there are some games on PC that dev's (lamely) make only work with a service. But ALL console games depend on XBL/PSN and THEN depend on the dev's service if they put one, like ALL EA games eventually get shutdown, etc.

Mods are just one of the benefits of PC besides better graphics, more controls options, MP is usually service independent (meaning as long as the internet is working, MP will always work regardless of a service going down), almost always cheaper games, and being able to work around devs' bugs before a patch is out or get things fix that dev's leave broken.

So just because you see one mod out of thousands that has an ass on it doesn't mean that is the only benefit ...

@HarryMasonHerpderp

Do you even know what HD means? HD just refers to anything beyond 480P/i which was SD television. PS3/360 generally do around 720P. 720P is around 2x as much pixels as 480P. 1080P is around 2x as much pixels as 720P. To say something is "HD" so the graphics are fine just shows ignorance. Resolution is only one factor of MANY that affect a games graphics. Texture resolution, draw distance/LOD, World density, world/character models and poly counts,...

Jump through hoops? BF3, Deus Ex, Skyrim, Sleeping Dogs, Crysis 2, and alot more are games where devs actually put work into the game and implemented either DX11 with great effects and physics and enhancements and better artwork/textures/models, AND they also released it the same time as the console version.

If the PS3 or Xbox 360 got a game that is from a system with terrible hardware in comparison and doesnt get ported and use the hardware like it should (sub HD, low textur...

Tell that to PS3-only or Xbox-only owners about their games.

Why is it that if a console game is crap framerate or is sub HD, or shitty textures, customers can express disappointment, but PC users can't?

The hypocrisy is strong in this thread.

If a game was ported to PS3 and didn't use it's horsepower and features, it is "lazy devs!"

If a game is ported to PC from PS3 and doesn't use it's horsepower and features it is "Fucking PC elitists crying about not getting a good port, be fucking glad you are even getting it"

Some people are ridiculous. Summons75 and HarryMasonHerpderp, you guys are a joke. Hypocritical to the max.

OpenGL 4.1 is supported by the Wii-U but that doesn't mean Assassin's creed will use it. OpenGL 4.1 is extremely similar to DX11.1. Just because the console supports certain features doesn't mean it will be used (such as the xbox's GPU tessellation abilities or MSAA and the PS3's MSAA ability). Using those highend features comes at a cost of performance. Hardware doing 1080P, utilizing DX11/OpenGL 4 features AND maintaining 60FPS requires not just the ability of the machin...

You are assuming everyone who has a TV also gets a console. Those are 2 different markets. Almost EVERYONE has a TV in America, while that is not the case with a console. Someone who buys the next consoles will be MORE likely to have a TV that is higher speced (1080p) than someone who doesn't care about consoles/gaming.

Most people buying the new consoles will have a 1080P display. Even my dad (62yrs old) has a 1080P TV and an Xbox 360. And another HDTV in his office (720...
