I'm glad 343 realized this. Though this what I have been thinking for years. When you look passed the graphics, CE is a vast, ambitious game that even Bungie (or anyone else, except possibly Valve) never managed to match with its sequels.
After Rage, I'm wondering why anyone cares what Carmack has to say anymore. He and his team have been far surpassed by many others. Carmack is equivalent to that old guy who still thinks he's got it.
If FFVII is considered Fantasy (probably more like sci-fi with a little fantasy), I find most of these picks questionable since it leaves out say, the rest of the FF series, Demon's Souls, the Phantasy Star series, and pretty much every game with the least bit of fantasy. Not like I would have considered this a good list to begin with.
I hear ya. Every one will have forgotten about MW3 by this time next year, but people will be playing Halo: CE through the ages.
S*** just got real.
Er.. yeah. My bad.
Okay, so did Uncharted 3 not make the top 10 then? Impossible.
Even if you hated Gears 3, it still deserves to be on the list more than the two games NOT YET RELEASED!
Though I have to say the commenter DEELOW is an idiot.
How many games do we even finish? If anything, most games need to trim the fat (the backtracking, the fetch quests, etc.) and simply become a tighter experience. U3 may be only six hours, but if it's good and tight enough I'll probably play it 2, 3, or even 4 times.
A game that is as long and as great as Zelda comes once in a blue moon. So to assume longer games automatically mean a better chance at GOTY is ridiculous.
I'm not going to argue with the top pick, as it is certainly one of the best of the decade. But how, Metal Gear Solid 3, Halo: CE, Metroid Prime, and Ninja Gaiden never even managed a nomination in any category makes me question this list.
Does anyone really take Famitsu's reviews seriously anyway?
The Intellivision version had great potential, but it loses out to a horrible framerate and constant crashes.
Really? Are we seriously arguing about "real-time fire." Who cares? Next we are going to be arguing about which game has the most realistic rocks...
The author first states OoT had a sort of "magical" quality as the reason it is such an amazing game. Fine with that, but I guess all it takes are a few glowing reviews to make the author believe Skyward is already the best game ever. Why does Skyward even have to be better than OoT? I'm fine if it's just an amazing game.
Yes, apparently 1 remake, 5 sequels, and 1 WoW clone equals a gaming revolution. That was the one most illogical articles I ever seen.
Yes, and PoP: Forgotten Sands was overhyped? If anything ir wasn't given enough coverage. I never even heard of Forgotten Sands before it was released. I thought they just threw that together to release with the movie.
Also, ODST clearly had Halo "3" in the title. No expected it to be a main-entry game. FFVIII's inclusion is just laughable. People still play that and I seem to see more supporters for that than FFVII these days.
@Pintheshadows - Hitler was a great man (as far as charisma and leadership goes)... just not a good one. I actually agree with your reasoning, but your example could have been better.
I was going to agree with you but then you mentioned MGS4. Sorry, but that game is way overrated.
She'd probably like Uncharted if she likes games more linear and like movies.
