I would say of all the classics over the years, it's one of the few that has NOT inevitably boiled down to nostalgia. It's still entertaining to play through even today.

And the story, like the best stories in the medium, is a culmination of atmosphere, setting, and actual gameplay, as opposed to straight dialog and cutscenes. Perhaps it's time to start paying attention to all the details that are not possible in other mediums?

Take away "In Animal Crossing Video" from the title and then stare at that face for a few seconds.

*shiver*

Yeah, I agree. Though only because they kind of went a different direction with Elizabeth. She was less a character and more a plot point by the end of the game.

Ellie was just a great, great character, regardless of gender or age.

I think we all understand that there is always a chance a game system could "bounce back." The most troubling aspect of the WiiU, though, is that Nintendo doesn't really seem to be trying to bounce back in the first place.

I just feel like they have absolutely no idea what they're doing anymore. Their online model is still ridiculously archaic (e.g. no online for games like SM3DWorld, ridiculous restrictions on eShop downloads, a generally snail slow network...

I'm totally with you on the DRM stuff, DragonKnight, but like Ducky mentioned, these games are (as far as we can tell) being developed as MMO's. I have no more a problem with their existence than I do with, say, Guild Wars or PlanetSide.

Surely you can understand the difference between a console-wide policy restricting any offline singleplayer gaming, and a single game created around multiplayer mechanics that require you to be online.

Nice review. I, too, am becoming increasingly disillusioned with the shooter mentality these days. I think I would have been alright NOT walking into a gun fight every time I turned a corner.

Like you mentioned, it's not that the shooting wasn't fun, but when all was said and done, it was the least impressive feature of the game...and ironically got the most attention. I would have liked more down time to simply take in and explore the world, maybe even expand on the ...

Yeah, it's a little disheartening. But at the same time, developers have been making MMO's since the dawn of the internet, so a few games that function similarly should not throw up flags on the same level an entire industry push towards always-on DRM does.

Well, I gotta say it's not a perfect game from a gameplay perspective (it's sluggish, standard, and borderline repetitive), but like the best games of all time, it does something so well and so much better than anything else out there that it transcends any problems it may have in other areas.

The characters, writing, and narrative are LITERALLY unmatched in the industry, as far as I'm concerned. So for that reason, it's in my top five of the generation and I ...

@Panthers

I'm totally with you, there. When I first heard they were reversing their DRM and online checks policies, I immediately began suspecting that it might have been because their "family share plan" was simply not going to go over well with third party publishers. If it functioned as they were suggesting, it would essentially mean that consumers would be buying two copies of the game for the price of one.

That would be a more tangible chun...

You're right...people should grow up. The sad thing about the "controversy" these games garner is that regardless of the side, people need to grow up.

Because there is indeed sexism and racism in the industry...just like there can be anywhere. It would be ridiculously naive to suggest that it simply doesn't exist. But not EVERY sexy lady is a product of sexism. Not every black character that is killed in a game is a product of racism.

So in ...

Yeah. It's just never been about lowering prices and providing more convenience for consumers. It was all about taking enough rights away from consumers to trap them in a digital ecosystem of glorified software rental.

“I have seen the number of unique gamer tags vs actual sales numbers and it ain't pretty. More studios WILL close and you'll see more PC and mobile games. I want developers who worked their asses off to see money on every copy of their game that is sold instead of Gamestop. **** me, right?"

God, this guy is such a tool. I think it's funny that he says he wants "developers who worked their asses off to see money," when one of the the biggest (and mos...

Well yeah. That's because the push toward digital distribution has never, EVER been about making things better for consumers. It has always been about control. It's about creating a model that entraps consumers in an ecosystem that can be easily and unfairly manipulated according to the whims of big business.

Because when consumers don't actually own anything, they have no actual say in anything.

He's just the worst kind of social media spammer. He tries so hard to accumulate indie cred by saying things like this, and then even when he's technically "indie," he still comes out with statements backing big-business models.

Like yall suggested. He just talks to talk.

Yeah, listen to influxity. No, they're PROBABLY not using it as a data-mining tool for some secret underground government organization. However companies do (as in, it is a proven fact that it is being done) gather information for advertising purposes, which in turn often leaks that private information out into the aether where it can be picked upon by the ne'er do wells of the world. It's how things like spam and identity theft perpetuate themselves.

And with a c...

Joel kinda disappointed me in the end. He kinda went a little crazy, though at the same time I understand perfectly why he did.

So I guess I should say that I may not have liked where the story ended up, but I respect where Naughty Dog took it....if that makes sense.

It's not a matter of brand loyalty. I've been a Nintendo fan my entire life, and unless you're just jumping into their camp it's hard not to admit that (fun as they might turn out to be) a lot of their games seem very much like retreads. Like, more than usual.

Yeah, I missed the immersion of the 3D environments. I wish they could combine the best features of the PSP version with the best features of FES.

Still an incredible game, though.

I'm with SaffronCurse on this one. If it's true then sure, that's not quite as bad as it could be, but at this point that explanation sounds HIGHLY suspicious.

Most publishers are not known for their charity and goodwill.

Edit: Oh man....Yo Mama is right....no that still sounds terrible.
