SNES wasn't doing so well until Street fighter 2 hit, genesis was trailing turbo grafx until Sonic hit and Psone had mgs. It was open world freedom for the first time. Shenmue was the closest thing to it but no driving cars. GTA3 was Shenmue, crazy taxi, Tokyo extreme racing, and stunt man all in one game. Vice city added hydrothunder and road rash...and helicopters! San Andreas added more. GTA was like buying a bunch of different games in one package.

Digital could have helped save struggling games and saved tons of jobs making games. Also, companies would be more willing to try new original games because the return would have the benefit no middleman distribution. There would be a surge in AAA creativity like there currently is with indie games because of the smaller losses.

Mk1 came out in 1993 September. Sf2:hyper special champion edition came out for genesis the same month. I remember being broke buying both games. Mk was 60 and sf2 was 75 bucks. I was in 10th grade. Good times. I actually liked the genesis version of sf2 better because of Sega's 6button controller was flawless. Mk2 for SNES killed the genesis version though in 1994. There were a lot of heavy hitters at that time.

Xbox had HD games before Sony did. OGxbox has a bunch of 720/480p titles. PS2 has none.

There were fanboys back then. There was no internet for them to be as vocal about it so it was nice and the fan boys made movies on their VCRs and couldn't unleash their hatred on YouTube. They had to trick kids into their basements with pizza and wrestling pay per view.

Sega is doing some good stuff lately. I want some key missing titles, but Vanquish and Binary Domain were good games that made up for some of those Thor and Iron man games.

Graphics aren't important anymore. Especially if we keep getting ugly games like madden that look exactly the same. You can spray poop with febreeze but it's still poop.

MGS, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, and countless other titles became multiplatform titles basically because of M$ deep pockets. And I'd say it helped the 360 overcome many of the OG Xbox's problems with getting third party support.
I'd love to see someone bring back the N64 Aki Engine. TNA or even a generic wrestling game to make the WWE games step up their game. It's been basically the same for this generation.
As long as they can handle Mode 7 and blast processing I think we're safe.
