I believe this list was originally conceived before God of War 3 was released...
No Maniac Mansion, Gabriel Knight, or The 7th Guest? Lest we forget the classics...
Unfortunately, even the most diligent of developers can't please every one. How would they go about making these so-called "inclusive" games to accommodate for each individual circumstance? Realistically, there will always be at least one group that feels alienated because the developer in question didn't have the time, resources, of budget to design a game with them in mind. Case in point - someone includes subtitles for the hearing impaired, pleasing that audience, but doesn't i...
I'm not entirely sold on the idea of browser based MMOs yet. That said, with the advent of Silverlight, HTML5, and other web technologies, that viewpoint is subject to change...
A lot of people are calling the lack of explanation for Ethan's blackouts a plot hole - I don't see it that way. Essentially, they are used as what would be called a MacGuffin in cinematic terms.
From wikipedia:
"Sometimes, the specific nature of the MacGuffin is not important to the plot such that anything that serves as a motivation serves its purpose. The MacGuffin can sometimes be ambiguous, completely undefined, generic or left open to interpretation."...
Jon David is one of the pioneering forces driving the social gaming revolution. That said, I imagine it'll only be a matter of time before PopCap expands their IPs to include facebook versions. Not sure how I feel about that one, though.
I wouldn't be surprised if Dragon Age 2 makes an appearance at E3 this year...
I don't think I've intentionally used any known exploit in an RPG. Of course, known may be the operative word ;)
I think this is going to end badly for Activision. What's to stop Ward and Zampella, having been ousted from Infinity Ward, from starting their own independent studio, and starting to shop around for publishers?
Wow, I must be getting rusty on my obscure old-school mascots - very few of them ring a bell! Time to dust off the old SNES and start looking into these rarities, perhaps?
Linear or not, I am still looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII immensely...
I'm inclined to disagree with Zelda not coming out this year - it positions Nintendo perfectly as far as an announcement goes, and (I suspect) is going to be their big news at E3 this year. In fact, what I'm expecting in terms of Zelda announcements go a little something like this:
1.) E3 2010 - Reveal trailer, and Holiday 2010 launch date shown
2.) TGS 2010 - Playable on show floor
3.) Mid-Late Dec - Release
Granted, I'm not psychic, but as mastiffchild...
Something tells me I'm going to wish I bought two copies of the GOW 3 ultimate edition - it's sold out everywhere!
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I understood why the mundane tasks (teeth brushing, showering, shaving, etc) were included. Not so much filler, as the reviewer implies, but instead as an added level of immersion surrounding the 4 protagonists. Think about it this way - we are seeing the world through their eyes, and are responsible for everything they do; be it something as harrowing as Ethan's trials, or something as boring as cooking dinner. Does the latter do anything to enhance the...
Got to love the golf club. (Let the fond memories of Bioshock's ending commence...)
That depends, Sinan. If a game is designed to intentionally leave you wanting more (Rainbow Six: Vegas, anyone?) then the gamer may end up feeling cheated, especially if the follow up feels half-hearted. However, I think what you're suggesting is a game so well done that you never want it to end, in which case yes, the developer has absolutely done their job.
On one hand, I agree that a seemingly never ending game that never grabbed my attention can be torturous, but the converse also holds true - what of the games that are shorter than expected, ultimately leaving the player wanting more?
Here's something to think about - is there ever truly such a thing as a non-linear game? Regardless of the type of game, and the level of freedom involved, there are always limitations of some sort...
I've done maybe about 1/4 of these - which still leaves me 77 more to go!
Some really great music here - and I'm sure I can't be the only one glad Donuts, Go Nuts made it to this list. I've been known to sing along with to that song at the most inappropriate times!
