Unfortunately, performance is not only linked to pixels, it's AI, physics, size of environments, quality of textures (which drives immersion), facial details (again immersion), number of entities on screen, particles, environment destructiveness.

Performance affects gameplay and game designers cannot overlook available performance when making design decision.

I see it like a drag race between a corvette (PS4) a mustang (XBOne) and a civic (WiiU).

Everyone knows the corvette will smoke the mustang, but it's still a nice race...while everyone ignores the civic.

Then on the sidelines, you've got the Ferrari (gaming PC), rolling its eyes.

Regardless of why Ballmer is leaving, any change in top management usually brings in a re-org. We just went through exactly this where I work. Change is rarely welcomed by employees regardless if it's for the better...

Change is negative be definition as it affect people's lives and the stability of the environment around them. The key is communication which is exactly what MS is doing. In other words nothing to see here move along.

I love it when he says "Mojang have such an amazing ability to capture tens of millions of people with games that have depth and playability and longevity"

As far as I know Minecraft is the only Mojang game that achieves that and that is an exception...don't get me wrong I love minecraft...but it's way too early to say that all of Mojang's games are all like that.

Oh and Cobalt is published by Mojang not developed by them.

@omi25p: How can you even say something like that with everything that we now know about prism and the NSA...It's not even Microsoft's choice...they have to comply.

Google "zero day exploit spying" and educate yourself.

He's stating the obvious...but I believe that developers will grasp this next-gen hardware faster than they did last gen...for two reasons:

1. Their Architecture is much closer to typical PC architecture

2. Both XBox1 and PS4 have a similar architecture

This is the first gen that "kinda" standardizes gaming hardware...we, the consumer, should benefit from this by having more games since they should cost less/take less time to pr...

What else is there for consoles to be better at?

I usually don't get F2P games because they usually suck if not paying, with some exceptions such as League of Legends.

And I am also guilty of waiting for sales on steam, I only buy certain games on day 1...is that wrong?

I also buy used games (usually from friends not stores).

Because I usually pay less than 30$ for my games, I now have a hard time justifying a 60$ game...In the end I may not be playing the latest and greatest, but I h...

I have a hard time figuring out who would buy an XBone. The core gamers drive the initial install base and then the rest buy what their friends have...if the trend continues, they better have a launch Halo game cause by the time it arrives, it'll be too late.

The only other thing is the TV integration, but at 500$, I don't know anyone willing to buy this for TV...also the article fails to mention that the 3000$ Samsung TV will be quite cheaper in a few years making t...

Cause that's how you reveal a game console, by showing the awesome games that will come out for your new game console...

MS just did exactly what Sony did with the PS3, but much worse, they did not focus their message...it does everything!!! Too much is too little in this case.

yes, the thing that makes dial-up, DSL and cable internet connections work...that little box with the flashing lights...that's a modem.

You mean like any other physical product available...is Ford getting money when you sell your Focus?

When I buy a used Ford do they loose a sale? No, because I wouldn't have bought it at full price and as such I accept the fact that it is used and has wear.

You say: Some people keep their cars very clean and do very little mileage...like new.

I say: And you'll pay more for it.

Anything physical becomes your property ...

It's a great console now, it'll be left behind in a year or so when real next-gen consoles come out (unless these turn out to be weak casual focused consoles, then we're all doomed).

Hardcore games will stop being ported to Wii U or will be nerfed. Seems to me that Wii U is what Wii should have been.

Player DA:O on PC...it was spactacular...player DA2 on PC...sucked bad, didn't even finish it...decrypt is right, and if you haven't player DA:O on PC don't speak like you played DA:O, cause you haven't.

Actually, Nintendo allowed Sony to explore this venture, which ended costing Nintendo their console supremacy until the Wii.

But you're also correct in saying this, since it's their expertise in CD players that got Nintendo interested in the first place.

All the companies you mention were specialized in video games and consoles. Sony is a huge company that's got multiple income streams. They can take a whole lotta loss before calling it quits just like MS can.

it would be interesting to see how many sales they lost because of their DRM caused issue (I certainly will not be buying the game anytime soon as was planned) versus the "real" lost sales due to pirating...we all know the game will be cracked (if not already) in a matter of days/weeks.

How many gamers that would have bought the game will just get the "always available/fixed" pirated copy?

This is Spores all over again.

That's a short sighted view of things...in fact a lot people that buy new games can do so because they sell their used ones to have the necessary money to buy another new game.

People that buy used game essentially fund part of the purchase of a new game for someone else. Cut that away and you're left with less people able to buy new games since they can't sell their old ones.

All under the assumption that people that buy used games will start bu...
