Amen to that!

Totally agree and I'll even add that last gen was the best one for gamers IMHO because there was intense competition.

This gen is looking to be similar, with PS4 gaining somewhat of a lead but nothing large enough that Sony can sit on their laurels.

Greatness awaits indeed for all gamers on all platforms.

Personally, I'm not buying before DLNA support is added...in any case, I have plenty of games on PS3 that I need to complete and I just bough 6 new Steam games for a total of 30$...

Too many games, not enough time...

for Steam, that's 7 million concurrent users (online at the same time)...not overall users...Steam has over 65 million accounts.

I like yours better actually, because of the music and movie trailer style. Nice work.

As a fellow programmer, I fully support your statement. Though I believe your comparison is a bit off as it mentions APIs and not languages. I would compare it more to the likes of using the .Net API vs the Java API as I believe both use C++ for code (could be wrong, not a game developer).

But your statement still holds it's mostly a learning curve.

It costs YOU that much because you have to go through retail and you're only buying one. Steam boxes will most likely not be made by Valve but by the likes of Asus, Gigabyte and co. who believe it or not will be buying/making more than one and will likely get them directly from the manufacturer, cutting the middle man...hence you won't be able to build the same in a regular PC for the same price...but you'll also be stuck with just Steam...hence not every PC game. (i.e. Origin g...

I'm sorry to break it to you but this story is much more than 1 month old, they've been talking about selling the division for years. It's all shareholder pressure, which is also what is driving Ballmer out (unofficially).

MS debunking this is pure speculation as they are changing CEO...XBox is briging very little revenu compared to other streams, in an effort to restructure the company I can see xBox being sold, the only lifeline is Bill Gates, but he only owns...

Unfortunately there is a race in the hacking community for who will be the one to hack the new consoles...instant internet celebrity, remember George Hotz?

Not condoning it, just stating fact.

The thing I don't get is that typically at launch there's a shortage of consoles...how can they be giving away consoles at a time when they're likely to not have enough for paying customers?

4456d ago 4 agree3 disagreeView comment

Case in point...Take any PC game, put all the bells and whistles on and then play it in 720p then in 1080p...now tell me 720p is better...

720p can only be better if the 1080p version is gimped...typically, resolution is lowered when they can't get the effects they want. When there is enough power for both resolution and all visual elements, 1080p takes the crown hands down.

Your logic is restricted by what you know it seems, in this case consoles...real...

I guess that would be me...the consumer.

Am I pretentious to ask for some sort of resolution improvement for next-gen? Why am I buying a 400-500$ console if it can't match my TVs resolution and what's been standard on PC for years?

I don't expect, I demand 1080p and will not settle for anything less...it's MY money and I'll put it where I get what I want...

Guess what, there are millions like myself...

MOD support surprisingly absent...

good article actually. Nothing new but should be read, especially the ones that don't get the whole resolution issue.

The way I see it is that last gen PS3 could have wiped the floor with the 360...but it didn't for a few reasons:

1 price
2 game quality (shoddy ports) on PS3
3 no games at the beginning
4 360 head start

Think about it, if the PS3 had come out 100$ cheaper than the 360, and released simultaneously with a good launch lineup and better game quality...what would the landscape be right now?

Well that's what we&#...

It all depends how much you're willing to pay really...the newer cards are just around the corner, but they'll be expensive, and then even newer cards are going to be around the corner then...it never stops...just go mid tier 250$+, you can't go wrong, you can always go SLI later...in then end you'll save money. If 1080p suits you that is.

4464d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

I agree, PC gaming is more expensive, but it's not as bad as people make it.

1. you don't need a top of the line GPU. Anything above 250$ will get you better graphics and resolution than next gens consoles.

2. you don't need top of the line CPU for most gaming. A regular i5 will do, which you may already have.

3. If you buy the pieces separately online you'll save tons (and they can usually build it for you for around 50$) <...

True, but there comes a time when one needs to change most of his components (i.e. Mobo) for me it kinda aligned with console generations.

Back in 2000 (Playstation 2, Xbox) I had a Pentium4, Voodoo 5500, 512mb of DDR ram (I think)

Back in 2006 (Playstation 3, XBox360) I had a
Core2Quad, 8800GTX in SLI, 4GB DDR2 ram

Last year I bought
Corei5, 570 GTX (in 2011), 16GB DDR3 RAM
