However, the XB1X is $500 which is $100 more than the PS4 Pro. In addition, it's $300 more expensive than an S assuming that its average selling price is $200. Let's say that the S's selling price in the last quarter of 2016 is $250. One XB1X sale makes up for 6x the lost revenue per XB1S sold or ($500-$200)/($250-$200).
@Kribwalker
The last quarter of the calendar year tends to be more volatile than the other three quarters. This is because during the holiday season, hardware sales are more driven by how low the hardware's price is. In contrast, hardware sales in the other three quarters are more value driven since special deals are a lot less common.
I would take a gander that the PS4 will have less than a 10% YOY drop this quarter and here are the reasons why. Mons...
@Kribwalker
Xbox hardware revenue increased by 14%, not hardware sales. In addition, Microsoft launched the XB1 X during that quarter which would obviously take home more revenue. However, you can only launch a console once. After that, you need to make sure that the sales performance can be maintained.
Um... you clearly don't know how to math. Assuming that this quarter exhibits the same 10% decline, a tenth of 2.9 million is 0.29 million. Subtract that from 2.9 million and you get 2.61 million. Sony will still exceed the forecast.
I see that some people continue to conflate gaming revenue with Xbox revenue. Considering that Microsoft has not been shy to share Minecraft sales numbers, it's safe to say a good proportion of the gaming revenue comes from that one IP. After all, it is on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, PS3, PS4, PSV, 360, XB1, 3DS, and the Switch.
Cost of production and R&D factor into profits, not revenue.
@Septic
It's not really the XB1 has no games, but rather its exclusive offerings are much to be desired which negatively affects its unique value proposition (or UVP).
And what may be going on with London isn't exactly the same everywhere else. For instance, Best Buy's Gamers Club Unlocked is a fantastic deal. You get 20% off any game regardless if you are preordering or buying a game months after release. You also get 10% more trade-in credit...
@Kribwalker
You can't get new users if you don't sell more consoles. That is unless those new users are coming from PC, but the Windows Store is still pretty terrible.
It calls the validity of the initial allegations into question because now, there are conflicting stories. And because the burden of proof falls on the people who made the initial claims, the accusers need to show the evidence. This is why we operate on "innocent until proven guilty" instead of "guilty until proven innocent".
This isn't liberalism. It's authoritarianism.
Wow, this journalist basically tipped his hand too soon as he compared gamers supporting QD to GGers. His ignorance of what GG was all about is probably indicative of his integrity, in general.
@death
There's a difference between buying exclusives and 1st/3rd party collaborations. I also put your assertion that the amount of actual 1st party games is small into question. In 2017, Sony released Everybody's Golf, Knack 2, MLB 17, Uncharted TLL, Gravity Rush 2, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Gran Turismo Sport. That is hardly small.
Actually, the setting of Ghost of Tsushima will broaden the appeal for multiple reasons. Firstly, the game is more relateable to the Japanese audience since it goes into Japanese history. Secondly, it is a setting that has not been used that often, so the concept is relatively fresh compared to those of other open-world games.
@Vasto
You say it only takes 10 seconds of side-by-side comparison to show Forza 7 blows GT away and yet, you have offered no evidence from your side. If it only takes that much time, why haven't you taken the liberty to prove your point?
Here's Digital Foundry's video: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

And the Digital Foundry video showed that GTS exceeded Forza 7 in most aspects of graphic fidelity, even when compared to the PC version at ultra settings.
Native 4K is not indicative of graphic quality if it's not utilized well.
@Septic
As long winded as your latest reply was, it is still a repetition of what you already in your previous comments. Outside of the Box already made his points clear by referencing a comment that you made insinuated that PS4 owners do not buy exclusives based on one NPD month. I won't repeat his points, but I do have plenty of other stuff I can criticize your statement for.
Firstly, I should point that the average November consumer is much more pr...

This PS4 SKU is also the 1TB model, so for $199 that's very good value.

If you want to get away with a red herring, at least make it less obvious. There's a major difference between Microsoft Corp. and the Xbox division of Microsoft. Same thing applies to Sony and its Playstation subsidiary. If you want to make an apples-to-apples comparison, you have to look at the Xbox division and the Playstation subsidiary.
That's one flaw in your argument. Another major flaw is that judging by a company's worth actuall...

Dissent does not equal to taking offense. In addition, I stated some reasons why the PS4 will likely not exhibit a significant decline to support my conclusion.
You had a good opportunity to offer your rebuttal, but you seem to prefer pointless posturing.
