Let me tell a good ol’ tale of Evolve. Within the first 3 months, Evolve sold at least 2.5 million copies. Take-Two were happy with the performance that they considered its launch “incredibly successful” and the game to be among the league of the publisher’s “permanent” franchises.
Sounds great, right? Except for the part that the player count absolutely tanked. Despite Turtle Rock’s attempts to revive consumer interest by making it FTP, they eventu...

A bit of a shame that Puppeteer never caught on with the general crowd considering it was a very unique game. I really hope Sony remasters it. Also looking forward to Toyama’s next game.
And what will happen when the PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4 games?
Not to mention, the subscription only costs $30/2 years. It's fantastic value.
@Lennox
That is a fallacy. Just because there is one similarity between two userbases doesn’t mean that the userbases’ tastes are the same.
God of War, Bloodborne, Horizon, and Uncharted weren’t made for mere bragging rights and to tick off checkboxes. They were made because Sony knew that there was a market for these types of single player games and would get a good financial return.

Watch Digital Foundry's GT Sport vs Forza 7 video. GT Sport holds a candle to Forza 7's PC version on ultra settings and even exceeds it in certain aspects.

Mobile gaming is handled by a different subsidiary (Sony Music Entertainment) from Sony Playstation. What Sony Music does will not affect what Playstation's plans and vice versa.
Part of the problem with the Switch is that the cartridges are more expensive than Bluray discs, which make price cuts a bit more difficult to swallow for Nintendo. You really have to keep an eye out for retailer promotions if you want to get Nintendo's games at a decent discount.
I would expect PS4 BC on the PS5 because ecosystems have become important. It would be in Sony's interest to keep all of its customers in the Playstation ecosystem. BC is a great way to do that because people can move their PS4 libraries to the PS5.
My assumption is that the 'unfriendliness' means not giving the smaller games some marketing to help them get more exposure than they would've otherwise received. I was a little pissed when Sony hardly marketed Gravity Rush 2 at all (in the west, that is) and that is a 1st party title.
Microsoft has been flexing their financial muscle for quite some time dating back to last gen. It's not how much money you spend, but how that money is spent.
The 2 million figure refers to unique players. However, the most important metric for a game like Sea of Thieves is concurrent players because what keeps a GAAS game alive is retention. We haven't heard much on that front.
@darth
You can't just list studios and games Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo each closed/canceled and call it a day. You also have to look behind the nature of the studio closures and game cancellations.
It is indeed true that Sony also closes its own studios. We saw this with Evolution and Guerrilla Cambridge this gen. However, the events leading up to their closures were different from those that led to Lionhead and Press Play's closures. For one ...
The quantity of quests and map size are not indicative of the game's quality. What matters more is the variety of quests and density of activity in the map. You should watch Jim Sterling's video on the Yakuza series. The map in those games are small, but it doesn't matter because the amount of activity is dense and the quests can range from serious to extremely goofy.
Sony is not going to pull an EA (EA released Titanfall 2 a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before COD). They will make sure that Days Gone and TLOU2 will be spaced out. My prediction is Days Gone will be released in February 2019 and TLOU2 will be out in June 2019.
@darth
Your logic is entirely incorrect. The Switch has an internal battery and can be played without the need of a TV screen or monitor. You can carry your PS1 in a bag anywhere you want, but a TV screen or monitor is absolutely necessary. It also does not have an internal battery.
Valve is a privately owned company, not a publicly traded company. Microsoft cannot buy Valve unless Gabe consents to the transaction.
If singleplayer games are very successful on Xbox, then we would not see Microsoft completely banking on GAAS games. Microsoft's very own actions contradict your statement.
@Death
The XB1 has already been pacing behind the 360 since the beginning of 2017.

The PS4 is actually up YOY in the US so far thanks to God of War. It will likely drop down below a few months later because last June, Sony released the gold and silver PS4's that sold quite a bit. However, Spiderman will be the biggest September release the PS4 has had since Destiny 1 in September 2014. And Red Dead Redemption will arrive in October.
