This confirms that Sony is not just targeting small Japanese developers, but also the large ones. Considering what we have learned about Sony’s policy, specifically the part where the inspections can only be in English and the games have to adhere to “western values”, this is cultural imperialism.

Well... probably not to that extent, but this game has definitely fell victim to Sony's censorship like many others:

It's going to be interesting how both Sony and Nintendo will act. Sony is very likely try to censor this game. If I were Nintendo, I would take that great opportunity to make it loud and clear to both the big and small Japanese developers that I'm on their side and will not resort to censorship.

There is actually a petition right now that is trying to get Sony to talk about their censorship policy. If you want to, you can sign it through this link: https://www.change.org/p/so...

Again, only if you want to. A lot of people think petitions usually mean nothing and honestly, I can't argue against that. However, it does serve well as a tally for how many people are against h...

Who knows? Some people say it's because Sony centralized all of Playstation's operations in California, a state that leans quite to the left of the political spectrum. It has been around a month or so since we have heard about XSEED being forced by Sony to delay Senran Kagura Re:Newal to take out the intimacy feature that was present in previous games (without much backlash). Sony has been rather hush-hush about their policy in which they still have not make an official announcement r...

Well, even though I don't believe petitions do much and serve more as a tally for how many people are willing to support a cause, here's the link to the Change.org petition: https://www.change.org/p/so...

It's close to eclipsing 7,500 signatures, but as Godmars said, you voting with your wallet is the best option. Almost every Japanese game is on the PC anyways and Ninten...

I would also like to bring attention to this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Ce...

- Allegedly, all communication and inspections with Sony must be in English only.
- Sony also supposedly scrapped their previous policy of following the 'local rating system' in favor of the 'western standard'. There are no such elaborations on wh...

If anything, it only brought more attention to Shirrako's channel. Look at Socialblade and how many subs he has gained.

You gotta wonder how much did Sony force the developer to gut Nekopara to drop the rating by not just one, not two, but THREE tiers... This authoritarian infantilization is nothing short of insulting to the consumer.

Mature (M) <- The Switch version's rating
Teen (T)
Everybody 10+ (E10+)
Everybody (E) <- The PS4 version's rating

"We have another rage with Sony on cleaning up images that need to be cleaned up anyway."

And a bunch of that rage are developers who are getting affected by the policy. Being forced to spend extra time, resources, and money to censor their own games that would've otherwise been used for future projects would not sit with them.

In addition, this "need" that you claim to exist is nothing more than conjecture. Sony has not made any o...

And from what I've heard, a lot of the niche publishers/developers are extremely upset at this policy. It's not just the fact that they have to report to Playstation HQ's inspections in only English during US hours, it's also how the policy forces them to delay their games and change the games' content. It wastes their time, energy, and money, which is particularly invaluable for them since they're nowhere near as wealthy as publishers like EA, Rockstar, or Ubisoft. Ev...

"Again, off topic and not the point, you shifting the discussion making this about me. Please point to exactly where I said that I care what people play, point to the comments I made that these games affect me personally?

Then, while your answering that maybe you can finally answer my original question as to why you think Sony would censor these games and not others."

You definitely care because the arguments you're making are subjective. E...

"The fact that you haven't even addressed the reasons Sony themselves have censored this content and why as suppose to other games with violence and sexual themes only further proves you have no actual points to make."

I already done that in my very first response and showed how whatever reasons Sony has are invalid. Your counterargument against my first response falls short, too, as having wide interpretations is grounds to relatively high subjectivity. This ...

"Okay, now you're just trying to not make any sense or your being willfully ignorant. Because I have stated in each of my replies plus my OP the reasons Sony are censoring these games and not others like GTA, TLOU and the likes. You have't made any valid points yourself and you haven't provided any proof to support your claims and yet you continue to ask some from me."

And I refuted your points by pointing at how TLOU relies more on realism whereas Jap...

"A point that supports mine more than yours is that Sony is actually censoring this content. We can sit here all day and talk about if the anime drawing looks of being underage is subjective but the fact is Sony is censoring this content for a reason and not the ultra realistic grittiness of TLOU and games like it."

You claim that your point supports your argument more than mine, but you do not elaborate further than that. Claiming that Sony is censoring content f...

Sadly, I have to agree. When (more like if, really) Sony finally retracts this policy, we'd likely be well into the PS5's lifecycle. They won't change until they realize that the PC and Switch will have grabbed a substantial portion of the audience away from Playstation on the basis of censorship. Basically, don't expect anything to change anytime soon.

Meanwhile, the best option for consumers who care about creative freedom is to vote with their wallets, i....

"But because of this art style there is much more room to interpret that the females involved are underage."

If there's that "much more room" to interpret, then the likelihood of the average interpretation to be more subjective than objective is greater. Because the pool of interpretations will widely vary, there will not be a consensus opinion. Overall, I do not see this point of yours as a refutation, at all, but an argument that further supports m...

My counterargument against your point is that TLOU 2 relies heavily on realism. From the character models to the shading to the textures to the mocap, they are as realistic as the PS4/Pro can handle. Compare that to the anime/cartoon style of games such as Yuuna-san and Senran Kagura. From the bat, you already know that these games are not aiming for realism.

Overall, the claim that these games portray their characters as too young, as you put it, is your subjective opinion...

This is the best article that has covered Sony's censorship, imo, because not only does it talk about Silverio Trinity, but all the other games that have been affected by the policy.

It's as if the "Don't like it, don't buy it" philosophy has been completely forgotten at Playstation HQ.
