When you consider that console gaming is pretty much the only sector still relying on physical more than digital, I do think it inevitably is going the direction.
PC shows that digital only is viable to millions of gamers. I don't think physical games are ending tomorrow, but inevitably, digital will become more popular than physical.
While you can still buy movies, CD, and books in physical formats, it's undeniable that digital has taken over. B...
These numbers pretty much show that the revenue numbers in that first link were way off.
Even if you over estimate and say all 700,000 Now users are paying $20 a month, that's only 42 million a quarter. That's barely a 1/3 of what those estimates show.
I'm not sure who came up with that graph, but it looks like the numbers were made up based on what you shared.
Drop a little interview before E3 where you know your competitor plans to talk about its plans. It's smart, and we saw them do it with the Pro 3 years ago.
It's complete bullshit. We should believe that they're only spending $$ millions on exclusivity to get Steam to lower their cut and be an even greater competitor to Epic? Sure.
Sweeney is full of shit
There's a good and a bad side to this. The bad is that, yes, collecting for future consoles is going to be significantly less...well, everything. But that is already starting to be the case imo.
With dozens of games being released every week, tons of digital only releases, and the fact that all 3 companies offer their entire current-gen catalogue on their digital storefronts, I don't see myself attempting to collect for this gen like those prior. That's a bit sa...
@gravedigger
Thats still not the entire picture. The early quarters of 2018 specifically saw hardware revenue up significantly due to the $500 x. Not only is there a natural decline occurring, but these last two quarters have been post-X comparisons.

The act of buying those studios is a bit more than just talk.
Ehh...Wrong time and place to talk about blurred lines. The kid responded to the ban by sending Sony customer support links to white supremacist sites. That's not to mention actively pushing his own racist bullshit to other users.
There are better examples to use in a slippery slope argument. At the end of the day, it's everyone's right to be a prick, but it's Sony's right to say that you can't be a prick on their network.
Because...
My question right now is figuring out what the jump in performance is over the Pro and the X. Both of those are currently priced at $399.
I know that there are a host of factors keeping the current mid-gen systems at those prices, but the idea of being able to spend the same $399 a year later to get a much more powerful system tells me that the Pro and X need to come down in price significantly.
Have you seen listings for Game Pass subs of 12 months though? MSRP is straight $119.00, but they were selling for $69.99 officially at Xmas.
6 month deals were less than $30 for most of 2018.
MSRP for Ultimate will be $180.00 more than likely, but I think it's almost guaranteed that we'll see deals in the $99-$120 range.
I doubt they think they're doing anyone any favors. It's safe to assume that they know exactly what they're doing by limiting it to monthly subs only.
Anyone with any knowledge of the current pricing and deals should expect to pay about $100 for a year's worth of both combined.
Anyone paying by the month is either not knowledgeable, or doesn't care. Those are the targets here.
Now if they get the Ultimate Pass down...
There are reviews for SF5 DLC characters. Why is that a bad thing?
Reviews should help consumers make decisions on where to spend money. So, DLC should be reviewed too imo.
The discussion continues well beyond this game. Hopefully this attention leads more devs and reactionists to actually looking into some of those discussions and efforts, and not just dismiss it with their strawman argument of choice. I would look into great initiatives like this one, where they are going to developers to help them come up with solutions: https://accessible.games
I was happy to see numerous devs chime in...
Well said. Unfortunately, it's the internet...where nuanced discussions are drowned out by absolutists and knee jerk reactions.
So many got caught up in the "not every game is for everyone" mentality that they failed to see that no one was disagreeing with that point. Buried beneath all of the angry rants and clickbait journos was a simple proposition: can we do better on the accessibility front in games?
Forward compatibility refers to the idea that new, "next gen" games would be playable on the old hardware, just at lower specs.
We've seen cross gen games in prior gens, but it seems like we're closer than ever to seeing a single disc being playable across multiple machines. I think it's going to start with games like Halo Infinite and Death Stranding too.
And I think most people agree that native BC on PS5 and the next Xbox was a fo...
I just think Square needs to remember when they said no remakes of VII until they make modern FF better than their past games.

All you've done is shown that there is no "outrage." Defend your clickbait use of the term all you want, but your "opinion" will look foolish and ignorant from the onset when you attempt to escalate the issue into something that it's really not.
From what I've seen, most "critcisms" (mild disappointment really) has just been on the lack of a character creator vs. another character like Luke, Anakin, Obi Wan, etc. Some people, mysel...
When I look at the timing, only doing it with the S model, and the overall low cost approach to its manufacturing and launch, I think it is the "Canary in the coal mine" strategy some hypothesized.

Test the market and get people used to the idea.

George Bush would be proud.
I've got a huge backlog on all consoles, but between Tetris 99 and Punch Out, I keep coming back to "Just a quick game" on Switch.
