And it wouldn't be a Microsoft article if the Sony fans don't come running in.

No, I understood. And my comment wasn't wholly aimed at you. Just the hypocrisy on both sides, really.

More to your point - It's been awhile since I checked, but I was perma-banned back in the day at Gamespot over the whole Kane and Lynch controversy. While I don't think too many are paid for positive reviews, there's always going to be a stigma to some types of reviews.

When we see something like what happened with MGS5 for example, I'...

I read the whole review here, and I'm not sure why you came to that conclusion. You're minimizing his other critiques.

There's quite a bit of criticism here. I disagree with some of it, but I understand the points made. I generally agree with his thoughts on the Abby "experiment" in particular. It did feel a little too contrived. I'd rate it higher, but this review at least explains the reviewer's critiques in more detail than many other revie...

It's equally as sad that people can't accept 7/10's these days too, right?

The review score wars always go the same way. Go back and look at some high profile games that netted some harsh reviews. Every other comment will be from people saying "I don't listen to reviews, I'll judge for myself." Or "Site _____ is bad at reviews."

Next time a game on their preferred system gets good reviews: "Great review!!"...

I think the relationship they were protecting was the editors' relationship with Sony, not the site's as a whole.

In other words, they wanted to spice up the story with some controversy and flamebait, but didn't want Sony to be mad at them. So they had Mitch Dyer put his name on it instead.

"Nintendo, historically never had any second thoughts in splitting their userbase..."

Are you talking about the handhelds like the New 3ds? I'd ask where they've split their user base in the home market, but I'm not trying to get into a Switch is a handheld vs. home console debate. But those "upgrades" kind of prove my point.

Take a look at the games released exclusively for those upgraded handhelds and then compare that s...

What kind of 3rd party support are we really talking about though? Switch versions of those big AAA multiplats barely chart. You can go onto the eshop and see what's actually selling isn't the big AAA 3rd party games.

Nintendo 1st Party, indies, and Minecraft continue to drive this thing. If anything, I could see more 360/PS3 era remakes getting the Switch treatment while the big 3rd parties focus on their HD PS5/XSX/PC multiplats.

And the Switc...

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with Nintendo's approach. They're also one of the best when it comes to using music, sound, and atmosphere to convey emotions to their audience.

Something like BotW shows that they have a great feel for how to convey emotion in story telling without the need for extensive dialogue and exposition.

That can be as impressive as a deep and well written narrative.

Sony has the media company in it...

He's just regurgitating debunked numbers to make his fanboy rant seem intelligent. It's closer to 50%. MS had to make multiple statements just to de bunk the false stats that went around. Anyone can Google it and see OP and his little sidekick here are wrong.

Why people would actively try to downplay BC is beyond me. It's not a cool add on, or some additional feature. It's truly a no brainer. There's zero reason at this point not to have it. Making it s...

Usually did midnight releases myself. I can't criticize anyone for chasing that feeling.

Off topic, but you might not be able to hold a release event if covid restrictions come back/continue. Can't be too disappointed when you can just click a button and have it delivered. But still, it'll lose that special feeling.

For me, as this gen has developed, I just don't personally feel the same pull. I've been day one on the last 3 gens, b...

I'm a big Halo fan, but I'm waiting. There's nothing about that kind of opinion that should upset people so much. To each their own, right? Not needing to jump into next gen so quickly is a positive for me. Glad X1 and PS4 will continue to get so much support.

I've got an X, and as long as Halo MP is cross gen too, I'm good to wait a bit.

Same with the PS5. I'm not overly eager to jump in. It's telling that most of the games ...

As long as it's somebody who keeps those studios going multplat, I think it's at least going to be on par with WB no matter who it is.

Not to defend EA or Activision at all, but WB is just as scummy at times with their own MTs, loot boxes, and terrible PC ports. I suppose it could always be worse though.

If that DC licensing agreement is in place, I can see a lot of interest. There's serious talent at those studios to interest MS regardless, ...

Aww, Shadow, don't cry to me in PMs.

Since subtlety isn't your thing, let me help you.

If you wanted to say, "Sonys show was 10x better than the Xbox show" I'd agree with that. If you use a lame anology to do it, there's a 50/50 chance I catch it while sitting on the can and make fun of you over it.

I'm sure we'll test those odds out again soon enough.

Sure, value proposition is key. But that varies among consumers too. The balance you refer to worked well when consoles were launching at 299. But when you get to 500 area, you know you're leaving people behind.

Someone could see a 599 PS5 or XSX as good value for their wants and needs. Others could find that a 299 less capable machine was the better value for their needs.

The goal is to get a capable machine into gamers hands so they can then buy ...

If all of their online stuff has helped fund new engines, than I definitely want ES and Fallout sequels.

If it's only minimal upgrades again, I'll reserve my hype for Obsidian and Outer Worlds 2.
