There can be narrative and pacing improvements, that's for sure, but I like the gameplay cycle for what it is.

Lost me there. The One X still works. I'd say continuing to sell the premium Xb One or PS4 when there are new, more future proof machines on the horizon isn't very pro consumer. For example, the Pro is still going for $399 with it's replacement mere months away. That doesn't sit well with me.

But to help answer your point, high engagement numbers help drive additional revenue with or without MTs. People w/o gamepass buy games that are getting played by friends and family. Expansions and DLC get made/purchased.
Devs get paid to add the games to services like GP, Now, or PS+, then they see that residuals come in from other consumers buying the gam...
