"Were you not one of those stating that PS Now was nothing like gamepass and xcloud."

Don't think so. You got me confused with somebody else? I think they're very similar. And I'll put money on Sony dumping a whole lot of $$ into Now this coming gen. They know how small the dedicated console/physical market is in comparison to others.

It's why they have a streaming service available on console and PC. ...

Exactly how can they "play by Apple's rules" here? This isn't like the Spotify lawsuit. The issue isn't even about the Apple tax. I've yet to see any suggestion on how to meet Apple's bogus requirements here.

The irony in what you said is that I'd think MS would love PSNow on its system. Get PS games on Xbox? Done. Although part of me thinks it would be rather funny if they said "we don't think PS Now offers a good value for ou...

You want me to copy your post and put it into any review, article, or discussion regarding PC, PS5 digital edition, Geforce Now, and PS Now, or are you taking care of it? We've got to get the word out about all of this DOOM! you're predicting.

Did you see where 3/4 of PS game sales were digital last quarter? Might want to post your comment on those articles too.

I will reflect on this dire situation the next time I gaz...

@christopher

Oh, they'd definitely get booted right now if that would happen. But those suits in the EU are heating up.

Maybe they'd make a "premium" program like they did for Amazon, or maybe the Spotify action (where they filed an antitrust claim against Apple) convinces them to allow it.

It's poorly worded. I think it's referring back to the prior paragraph regarding MS having broader audience on PC and Mobile?

Not sure I understand the full point being made even then though. But I will say that the short-term focus of Sony is relatively true. Their success in the traditional console business affords them the opportunity to stick it out for a lot longer than MS. They're ready for the inevitable next phase with Now, though.

"If Microsoft has a presence on every OS out there and then requires you to sign in directly through Xbox Live App....is that not a monopoly!?!?!?"

No, it's not a monopoly. Not by any stretch of the definition. Maybe you should explain how or why you think that makes it a monopoly?

PS Now could be available on iOS. Nvidia, stadia, etc. too. Just like ^ pointed out, Netflix is on multiple OS's. Not a monopoly. Microsoft isn't pre...

Wanting a cut of what? In-app sign ups? Sure, they could ask for that, and it wouldn't be entirely unfair to do so. With that said, I'd personally expect MS to do exactly what Netflix did last year, and simply circumvent Apple by redirecting you to sign up through Netflix directly. I've yet to see anything that suggests in-app sign up royalties wouldn't be coming to Apple for xcloud, though.

Understanding those books you mentioned, how exactly is MS demo...

Maybe. Often people conflate a benefit to them with "not being shafted like everyone else."

The Spiderman deal is what it is. But stuff like FF7R or RotTR deals, for example, aren't really a benefit in my view.

If we truly got those games early because of the moneyhatting, then sure. But we really just saw others go without for a year.

Great for MS and Sony, bad press for square (the checks they received helped soften th...

To an extent. Full exclusives are obviously a bigger deal.

Most of 360's success was Owed a lot to either full 3rd party exclusives like Gears, or long term timed deals like Mass Effect.

They haven't forgotten that. Paying for a timed deal on one big AAA likely costs the same as paying for the same deal on three AA games. That seems to be their strategy now. They're looking outside of the mainstream AAA space to make deals.

Indeed. They're getting there. This was their best effort yet. It's been awesome to watch that studio improve so quickly.

I don't know if acquisition would be a good thing, but I'd like to see one of the big guys contract with them for a big budget game to see what they can do with more resources.

There is still some jank, but nothing crazy. Occasionally you'll see something like when Roach would clip ontop of a roof. So not game breaking, and kind of funny. There is something weird with the lighting at random times too. But not a big issue.

Combat is seriously addictive. Spiders really got that right this time. Story is predictable, but fun. Upgrades and classes are well done.

I liked it a lot.

I make extra money for my game collection by buying defective systems off ebay and Craigslist to repair and resell. Apparently there are a lot of us cavemen out there.

Failure rates are real. Things like overheating and shoddy components can't be protected against.

I know it's easier to think that its user error, but believe it or not, these things aren't infallible.

Not sure what I could do about RRoD, YLOD, or joy con drift. Those were all due to shoddy components.

The Saturn was dead out the box.

Disc drives on PS2 fat weren't the greatest.

No explanation for the PS4 drive. Shit happens?

But still have my N64, GCN, Handhelds, og Xbox, PS1, and maybe a dozen retro systems still working to this day though. Win some lose some...

The Saturn hurt me. That was my first big purchase, ever. First time I wasn't going to be the last of my friends whose family could afford the new system.

I landed my first "real" job that year. Technically I wasn't old enough for a work permit, but I got a job cleaning the parking lots and trash from a some of inner city strip malls. $5 an hour under the table.

I was saving for a bmx bike. One day I saw an ad for the brand new "Se...

Haha, maybe. I left out all of the ones that still work to this day though.

Once we got to the age of consoles going with disks, the mechanics just weren't built to last.

A catastrophe that knocks out the internet would cripple the world's financial markets, military operations, education systems, political institutions, and damn near anything else.

Why stop there? A catastrophe that fries our power grid will really hurt that future proofing too.

Oh, I've had some rough ones.

Launch day Saturn came DOA for me. Got it exchanged quickly, but the software drought was rough.

Launch day PS2 had to get the disc drive replaced a year in.

Launch 360...well everyone can guess what happened there.

Launch PS3 did get YLOD, but I reflowed it myself a few years later.

Launch PS4 has a bum disc drive. Still have it in the collection, but bought a repl...

Then put your disk in your console?

Don't buy the PS5 digital version and don't buy a PC.

If there's a diskless Xbox made available, don't buy that either.

Glad I could help you with this conundrum.

Fair points.

Prior two quarters were at about 1.6b over the holidays and then 1.5b for the Jan-March for add-on content. We can call that Fortnite/Warzone/2K money.

All things digital went up during this time. He's reporting on the 1.37b they made for full software sales during this "covid quarter." Holiday quarter was at about 1.2b for full digital games, and the the Jan-March 2020 qtr was at about 900million for comparison. Of course, ...
