I read that and nothing they said had anything to do with making it an open platform.

It's going to be like DLC all over again where people with the foresight tried to warn people. And said things like "if you buy DLC now eventually it'll will be in every game and they will cut content to sell as DLC and they will sell the end to games as DLC ect." and all that has happened and worse. Now there is no going back.

In five to ten years UWP will...

This is VGchartz so Xbox is over-tracked by 15-20% and PS4 is under-tracked by the same amount.

@darthv72

Yes, because Valve doesn't write Windows and because you can sell your game or program on Steam as well as on your own webpage. And with Steam the user can alter whatever files they want. Also Steam doesn't exert any control or limits on your other hardware or software which is something UWP is doing.

And plus Valve is pretty highly regarded for treating consumers fairly. If Microsoft was a trusted brand people might not even question this b...

@Cobra

They can force Devs though, that's the problem.

Let me give a totally realistic scenario. What if Microsoft writes DX13 (or any necessary Windows file really) too only work with UWP.

Then with the stroke of a hand you have a situation where any company who wants to make a modern game/or program only has the option to sell it on the Windows Store.

(woops well said Aenea I was typing this while you posted the above...

If you're just calling all the criticism from MANY different people including people heavily invested in both the gaming and the wider computing communities FUD. Then clearly you don't understand whats at stake and lack the vision to see how things start out small then become bigger problems over time. Or you're heavily invested in Microsoft and just want money.

If things like this aren't stopped at the start they become unstoppable in the future.

No, I'm basing my onion on what we DO know, as well as Microsoft's long history of antitrust and anti-consumer practices.

It's not about SLI or FPS counters... those are really the smallest of issues. The issue is Microsoft trying to use its control over the Windows platform to unfairly dictate and strong arm who and how people can sell, buy, modify and update there games and software.

There is so much more I could say but if all the articles that have already been written plus years of Microsoft history aren't enough then it's clear you have way to much Microsoft shoved in your ho...

I guess that's possible, Microsoft hasn't given any information on what kind of bandwidth that port is capable of.

Though I'm pretty sure the upgrade thing Microsoft is talking about is moving over to a cell phone like structure where they come out with new slightly faster models regularly and try to sell them with service plans like cell phones. They did that with the 360 for a while though it was only at select stores.

What you say is true, and I'm not trying to contradict you. But the cable plug has nothing to do with it. There are at least a half dozen USB plug shapes that are all compatible with each other. My printer uses a USB-B on one end and a USB-A on the computer end. And a PS3 has USB-A on one end and mini USB on the controller end and PS4 is Type A to micro.

All of the above have the same number of pins.

USB-C is a totally new pin out.

It's not the same thing. USB 3.0 is not fast enough and Thunderbolt has built in PCI which allows communication with the CPU and RAM which USB does not have.

They're not the same thing. Even if it's called USB. (which it probably shouldn't be)

This is using Thunderbolt 3 aka. USB-C Xbox uses USB 3.0. It's extremely unlikely they will be compatible the USB-C connector uses twice the number pins. (the metal bits inside the connector that transfer data and power) As well as the host controller is different.

Ok. I admit it, you're more of a "gamer" than me. Do you feel better now?

3638d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Oh dude, please stop with the burns, seriously a few more burns on this internet forum and I might have to take my ACME government issued suicide pill. Then you'll feel so bad!

But to be more serious, I admitted I was wrong and you came out playing your "gamer" card and I made a joke.

Ah well how altruistic of you I'm humbled by your aura.

All hail thee, mighty gamer!

lol

I guess that's true. I honestly have so little interest in EA I don't even bother keeping track of what games they are making.

3638d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Why keep Bioware around making long expensive RPG's when you can make a cheap game with no single player and sell millions just by slapping a Star Wars logo on it?

I got all three games on Steam last weekend. I am really looking forward to Lightning Returns which I haven't played.

But I decided to start at the first one and play them in order (in glorious 60fps) since I have only beat them once and that was near their release.

And really what I have to say is 13 the first one is amazing. All the art and the music are really top notch. And the cinematic cut-scenes, oh man they are so good. I really don't underst...

Not getting paid? But isn't money the problem here?

I mean Microsoft is doing this to gain market share for the money, not for the gamers. They could easily make money selling and allowing games in the marketplace as it exists now. But they don't want to compete in a fair way they want to use their control over the Windows platform to dictate who and how people can use Windows. Unlike before where they just sell a program and everyone is free to do what they want ...

Or would it? I think a big fail would be for the best.

I hope people say no, like they with with always online.

But I have little faith that people will do that.

The xbox isn't going to become upgradable. It wasn't built for that. There aren't ports for it and the RAM, GPU and CPU are hard wired to the console.

What's been talked about is cellphone like upgrades where they offer a new model yearly or whatever.
