I don't want consoles sold like cell phones. I'm in no way saying I want Sony to do this. But there is nothing stopping them.

Personally if consoles go the way of cell phones I'm done with consoles.

I think just like DLC and paid online Microsoft is destroying console gaming. Everything was so much better before they got involved.

Click disagree as much as you want, you'll never change my opinion.

Just because the PS4 isn't compatible with the PS3 doesn't in anyway mean that future systems can't be compatible with the PS4. The PS4 has a very simple architecture that can easily translate to future generations. And if Microsoft starts selling consoles like cell phones with yearly upgrades there is nothing to stop Sony from doing the same.

I'm not worried about that. USB will never be used in any kind of crossfire configuration ever. I just hope you have learned something about PCI and USB, and the difference between a gigabyte and a gigabit .

Do you even know what a monopoly is? You can by a game license key on any website like Amazon for example and activate it on steam.

There are plenty of programs that can tell you exactly the amount of data is being used by each individual PCI slot. My motherboard has a overclocking program that can give me exactly that information.

And you seem to be unable to comprehend that PCI is using gigaBYTES per second. Even one gigabyte per second is more than the theoretical maximum of USB at 5 gigaBITS per second. And a single video card is capable of using far more than 1 or even 10 gigaBYTS per second. An...

No, you don't understand Thunderbolt is a specific type of port designed with built in PCI allowing it to interface with the motherboard/CPU/memory in a more direct way for that type of traffic. Also when you're talking about Thunderbolt being used to connect high end video cards that's actually Thunderbolt 2 or 3 and not the original Thunderbolt.

USB even though it's rated at 625 Mbps it will NEVER EVER sustain that speed one millisecond second it may be 50...

That's going from PCIe to USB not the other way around.

It's turning one lane of a PCIe bridge into a 4 port USB hub.

And gigabits and gigabytes are not the same thing.

gigabit per second (Gbps)
gigabyte per second (GB/s)

5Gbps = 625 Mbps (megabytes per second) exactly what the wiki page I linked to said. And on top of that USB NEVER reaches its maximum and the bandwidth is varied. The design of the U...

That's not how it works.

As far and I know even after googling it to make sure. There is no such thing as GPU going through USB. And it definitely wouldn't be any kind of high speed connection. USB isn't that fast and it has an incredibly variable speed in part due to the way it's designed to support more than one device at the same time.

GPUs are hard wired into the motherboard on consoles and use dedicated PCI slots on PC. There was one ...

They will when companies start asking them to sign up to service contracts because they come out with expensive new consoles every year.

You can already see how divisive this topic has become. If you think people have no passion I just ask you to think back to the backlash on the original Xbox always online DRM plan.

3644d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Regardless of how much money those platforms made that is not what people are looking for when they buy a console.

Wow just wow... you know the divide is huge when Gamingbolt stops towing the party line.

The thing you are missing is that there is nothing at all stopping Sony from following suit.

This direction is bad for consumers.

Don't tell that to the people commenting on the article. Tell it to the people who wrote the article.

And you can paint me with whatever brush you like but I assure you I would say the same thing about console upgrades and trying to shorten console cycles to be able to sell consoles on cell-phone like plans regardless of the brand.

I think they're a terrible idea for consumers in the console space, especially when compared to the industry standard t...

People are commenting on the article in question. The article raises these topics. So obviously people are going to talk about them as such.

I can see already how this is going by who's saying what on these topics. You have pretty much got the people who love Microsoft saying it's great as they are going to do with anything Microsoft does and everyone else saying no thanks. I predict this will only divide Microsoft's base.

I don't find console games are too expensive... until you start talking about DLC. Then I start to get angry, cut content cut and pasted map packs. Those things are WAY to expensive.

MCTJim Well basically what you're saying is you want a PC?

If you're going to upgrade the CPU RAM and GPU you're not even using a console anymore. The things your saying are just totally contradictory to everything console gaming has stood for.

And what worse is now your getting into the realm of closed source PC's where the only programs you can run are Microsoft approved which wouldn't only be bad for consoles but the whole PC ecosystem....

Listen, I'm not buying a new console every few years. It's as simple as that.

And a lot of people don't even buy consoles till halfway through a gen after more games are out.

I think you'll find many people will feel the same way and will be unwilling to spend $400-500 every few years on a console. Or the even worse option of having them sell consoles like cell-phones with overpriced yearly contracts.

3644d ago 5 agree6 disagreeView comment

It's not like the whole idea of console gaming was that you bought one inexpensive box that lasted 5+ years, right?

Isn't that why everyone is always claiming consoles are so much better than PC because of the simplicity of the one box? But I guess as soon as almighty Phil says it's about buying a bunch of upgrades and selling with cellphone style pricing programs all of a sudden that's not true anymore huh?

Also I'm not really attackin...

I saw this crap coming from a mile away well to be precise since Mass Effect 2 which was the last EA game I bought. And the thing is they're only getting started. Now that Denuvo is stopping piracy and people are switching to digital which EA has full control over you can only expect to get less for your dollar in the future.

Way to go gamers we did it!

Or... you did it... I've been trying to tell people their sales model was a trap for years.
