in sf4/ssf4 the two-hit combos are the same as sf2 in a lot of cases (cr mk to fireball), the crossups are the same, and the antiair/fireball zoning tactics are the same for tons of chars. sf4 has changed less than madden and actually undone a lot of what sf3 added.

those games sold well cause graphics couldn't take up the majority of development on SNES and hence they had more story and more content they could fit in. they didn't have to spent weeks rendering each area so they could just add more in. if they keep demanding top graphics like in FF it limits the content necessarily if they want to make it look good. that's why i think the famous releases are suffering...i haven't liked a jrpg in a long time but they were once my favorit...

the wiimote also works when not pointing at the screen. this is a common options setting in metroid and COD and I have no idea how a hardcore gamer such as yourself could have missed it. games with wiimotion plus can have improved accuracy when pointing off screen where normally it uses last known position.

Like all consumer preference, this argument is based on values of individual consumers that others may not share. So someone may argue the wii is better because it cost much less than the other systems at launch and has preferable controls while a different person may argue they like the improved graphics of the HD systems and a traditional controller.
