Heavy Rain's appeal is the ultimate example of the movie gaming point though. It sacrifices more gameplay for story, plot, dialogue, and cutscenes. You do need more examples to make the point but that is the best single example he could have posted in the interests of time.

Do "all adult games" sell millions on the ps3 or xbox? As with the wii there's a lot of mediocre games that didn't sell on on either HD system. No one brings up sales of a game like Shadowrun as an example of how "adult" games sell on xbox. So why does a game like the Conduit or Madworld represent their sales on the wii?

When all three systems have gimmicks and two of them lose I would hope you revise this idea and search for perhaps a little more thoughtful analysis. I also suggest you look at virtua boy to see that gimmicks alone can't sell.

I agree with all of what you said but would add that difficulty caused by unnecessary complexity violates axioms of design. Dumbed down games tend to fail. Simple games with complex gameplay arising out of a well-designed premise succeed. Smash Bros has what, 2 buttons? Punchout is very simple but the game is extraordinarily difficult. Tetris is as simple a premise as possible and is much harder than most games ever made.
