No...America didn't forget about Sony, Sony forgot how to sell in America. How much was the PS1 or PS2 when they came out? Sony lost America when they made the decision to slap a $600 price tag on their console and carried the arrogant stance "people will buy it anyway". But then again their only concern was winning the format war so they decided to sacrifice their gaming market share to do so.
So...if someone doesn't share your same interests or opinion then they are branded an idiot? I love how the birth of the "core" gamer brand has produced so many self proclaimed individuals. I love the whole message everyone weaves that if you are not "core" you are less of a person. In the end you either play video games or you don't...that is the only absolute. Creating a special label to give yourself a sense of social elevation is nothing more than identity cris...
Madden football has been doing this for yearssss but COD is now poster child for this type of model? It's all about graphics...isn't it...if it doesn't have a new engine then they did nothing. If you are going to bitch about this game then you should also be bitching about all the sports games out there that release EVERY year with minimal changes other than the BS names they license. People play and enjoy the game...that is why it sells. If you can't handle that then go find ...
This obviously has limited applications for everyday personal use, but for anything kiosk based might provide a cheaper alternative to a more elaborate touch screen interface.
People pissing and moaning about how this game is inferior to other shooters yet those other shooters would have never existed if it wasn't for John Carmack.
...or core (spoiled) gamers are just so used to getting all the attention all the time that when a corporation tries to diversify its customer base to create more gamers and increase capital it is labeled as abandonment. MS has more than enough core games with its 3rd party support. The reason Sony has invested so heavily in first party support is because it is the only way they can guarantee that the games will atempt to graphically set themselves apart. Bitch about casual all you want, but ...
Unfortunately...at least in case of Comcast...you have to carry at least a basic cable package in order to receive cable internet service. I remember asking that very question some years back and was told that you can not receive cable internet from them unless you have no less than a basic cable package. That may have since changed....I am sure Verizon has high speed internet only packages.
"You don't have to pay money for an additional settop box, you don't have to pay a DVR fee, you can use it as the primary settop box and not have to pay the leasing fee... "
Which just paid for your yearly subscription to XBLive.
That is exactly the opposite of what Sony officially said they were going to do. They stated that the next console they put out would not be that much of a technological jump from the PS3. They obviously don't want to repeat the same mistake they made last time.
I Pledge to Go Commando On September 20th
Not too sure if anything major will come out of this agreement this generation, but who's to say that they couldn't develop a custom version of the Android OS to serve as the backbone on the next system. That would be more in Google's comfort zone...minimal effort to tweek the existing OS and let Sony or 3rd party developers deal with the rest of what Sony needs.
If they look to create anything to provide a valid challenge to XBLive then they would have to create a new system from the ground up. This mashup approach that Sony took only paints themselves into corners at times. So the question will become whether or not Google would be willing to take on that burden with all the other equally important stuff they have going on now. It all comes down to the ROI numbers.
"At $249, the PS3 will simply explode in sales WW. That's not my opinion, it's simple facts."
Until it actually happens and becomes fact then it is ONLY your opinion and nothing more. I would imagine that could be the source of some of your disagrees...other than the usual N4G man-child mentality.
@Phantom Disagrees - Backs up my claims of N4G man-child behavior. =)
Well...just by seeing how this tech is running it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for a game to prompt the player to turn on cue for eight 45 degree turns to create a 3d model to put you in the game...even wearing proper gear.
Maybe for some of the biggest studios like EA and Activision greed is involved but for other studios it's a matter of survival. You think that all those graphics everyone loves to rant about don't come with a price? Games design is rapidly taking on the shape of most your movie studios requiring vast amount of resources just to gamble on a product. The only way these studios have a good chance at making back their investments is to broaden their audiences. Brand loyalty is only someth...
Even if you overlook the nuisance factor. People do not want to pay extra money or deal with the glasses. Even if they got the price down to 20 dollars a pair people will still have issues. How would you throw a superbowl party and invite 10+ guests to watch in 3D? You going to tell someone "I'm sorry I only have 4 pairs glasses". Oh...we can ask everyone to bring their own glasses...if they have a set...or if they remember. If some people don't have glasses you'll end u...
And what happens in Kung Fu Live if you kick directly at the camera? No...eyetoy does not have FULL body detection in a 3D space as much as most would like to believe.
Even if the Vita sells decently their total number won't even come close to the amount of Xbox's, pc's, and other mobile devices with Skype access. No...MS doesn't NEED Sony...would they mind the extra users...sure. I would imagine the only reason they haven't pulled support for the Vita is because of the negative feedback they would incur due to the existing public fear of them closing off the system.
Seeing how they would also have to support business enterprise I don't see them ditching Windows...unless they came up with a seperate server solution. I imagine this is geared more towards the interface aspect.
You also need to consider that a lot of these story based single player games have less replay value once you complete them. I would like to see them add rental numbers with these sales numbers to see where the true interest levels are. With completion times of 6 to 10 hours I would believe that most are opting to rent instead of buy.
