Combining MOBA and FPS seems to be the new trend.
E.g. Battleborn, Battlecry, Overwatch, Lawbreakers, Paragon, Gigantic and many more ...
I think they overestimate the market.
I had fun fun on it - especially for couch coop a great console imo.
As a standalone console it doesn't work well of course, since almost no third party support.
And a "shelf hugger" for sure. But they made money with it and are far from bankruptcy. So who cares.
I personally was more disapointed with third partys abandoning ship so early. But that's of course also due to Nintendos design choices. I am curious what they are cooking up wi...
Terrible games? You sure you are speaking about the same console ...
The exclusive library of the WiiU is highly acclaimed. You may not like the kind of games on it, but that doesn't make them terrible. Lots of well polished and fun titles.
I agree.
“Every time I have ever criticised that company and its management, including its late president, it wasn’t because they were running the company into the ground and about to go bankrupt. It was because I didn’t think they were generating enough profit on the phenomenal assets that they have. I’m not critical of these guys in the way that you should be worried.” /Pachter
"All Nintendo should have done was confirm that there would be a successor to the Wii U, and never mention it again until they were ready to show it off."
Isn't that the exact thing they were doing?
You wanna dish out 400 bucks all 3 years for a new console, but PC parts are too expensive?
Strange logic considering that console games are more expensive and PS+ is mandatory for online (if I am not mistaken).
Exclusives aside: It's more convenient - I'll give you that. But from now on definitly not cheaper.
Sounds smug.
And isn't it more like PC leads and PlayStation follows?
Anyway. I guess that MS will play it smart and release a living room PC next generation and not a closed console anymore. In that case there is no need for them to work on any proprietary VR device, since it will be compatible to e.g. Oculus. The latter is all speculation of course ...
The experience of VR is amazing. But that first awe will not last long and people get used to the medium.
The real question is then, if the games have (re)play value. And what I've seen so far doesn't deliver anything remotely close to what we are used to in modern AAA games. (It's a natural fit for simulationtype games, though ...)
Don't get me wrong: it's a wonderfull medium! And I think it will be part of our future and we will have great games eventua...
@GrubsterBeater
Current VR games are all dipping toes in the water - more like Demos, some rail shooter stuff and so on. Wait till full AAA games arrive for VR ... PS4 won't cut it anymore. I don't know what's so hard to understand about that? The PS4 can't handle normal games in FullHD and 60fps often enough ... how the hell shall it handle VR titles in remotley the same image quality?
Every hardware has it's limits. Most PCs are not ...
It's either backwards compatibility or easy third party support. I guess they'll go for the latter and base the NX on x86 architecture like everyone else. Makes porting easy.
Also haven't there be rumours, that they are working on splatoon and mario maker for the NX? That wouldn't be necessary, if the NX would be fully backwards compatible.
"giving a game more development time is always a good thing"
... quoted from a "Horizon Zero Dawn"-delay thread with 20/3 agrees.
No Bayonetta?
Imo there will propably be "exclusvies" for PSVR, because PS4 (legacy) just wont cut it. There is just not enough power for AAA VR experiences. But it's of course a "seperate platform" marketing will tell ...
Other than that, I agree: they would be stupid to leave their huge playerbase in the rain with content and games.
I see the complains allready incoming: "Now I shelled out good money for the NEO and get locked to freaking 30fps and 900p in Multiplayer like the old tech? ... Why the hell did I upgrade, if the developers are not allowed to use the power?"
Just saying ...
Since they all switched to x86 architecture and as long as console makers stick to it, there will be no issues with backwards compatibility from now on ...
Well, I think Nintendo would be fine with that - buying one for your daughter I mean.
It's not only the indiegames and casual games; you've got also full "backwards compatibility" on PC, with the possibility to play games of several decades. An insane amount of choices. In this regard the playerbase is spread on PC way more games than on consoles.
Take the shooter scene: Things like ARMA, Squad, Project Reality, Insurgency, Counterstrike ... you just wont find those alternatives on consoles.
That has advantages (like diversity and ...
8 month?
There wasn't any (big) advancements in CPUs since SandyBridge arrived 5 years ago. I am still playing everything fine on my i5 2500k for example.
And graphicscards: If you don't push for real high resolutions, but stick with FullHD, a mid- to high-range modell will last you 2-3 years as well. I am still on a r9 280. Might upgrade finally this year, when the new graphiccards are out and prices go down a bit.
Generally speaking there is really no ne...
Why get so defensive, when another platform makes profit?
PC gaming is very healthy, as is console gaming and mobile gaming.
PS4 sells like hotcakes, X1 doesn't do so bad as well ... lot of new consoles and platforms (VR) on the rise.
It's a great time to be a gamer. Lots of good choices - and the luxury problem of "too many games to play".
That "doom and gloom" and "console warfare" mentality makes gaming for...
You are right. Maybe I should have spoken of "MOBA gameplay elements" ...
Anyway, my point is, that those games share common gens - and there is a good amount of them on the horizon. It will be interesting to see, which will thrive and which will go under.
