Dude did you play The Witcher 3? As a fan of open world games, which do you consider to be the Best Open World Game of the Generation? Some are calling it between GOW, Spiderman, Monster Hunter World, Horizon Zero Dawn, Assassins creed Odysee, GTAV(?) (although sales of GTAV have already put it in the record books, it's more GTAOnline that sells).

I've not played all those games but only played a few of them, but for me it's definitely a very close call between...

@King_Noctis

Please see my reply above.

When you look within each franchise, God of War makes a bigger "revolutionary" jump than Red Dead 2. I'm not talking about within the genre or within gaming in general; but specifically within their respective franchises. That was my initial quote - which is now being misquoted and misconstrued.

All I meant is that God of War is a more significant innovative leap over it's predec...

I completely agree, Witcher 3 was amazing, and could be a contender to beat Red Dead 2 in the open world category. Pound for pound, there are a few thing that Red Dead does better, but overall I don't know who would come out on top. My Break down would look something like this:

Story telling - Witcher 3
Graphics - Red Dead
Side Quests - Witcher 3
Gameplay - Witcher 3
World building - Witcher 3
Side Characters - Red Dead 2 ...

@Wwinterj
If you're going to quote me, quote me correctly please. I said "revolutionary for the franchise". NOT revolutionary for the genre. Do you know the difference? Each game was trying to be revolutionary within it's own franchise, but God of War God did more to revolutionise the God of War franchise, than Red Dead 2 did to revolutionise the Red Dead franchise.

I'm not talking about genres or games in general, nor am I directly comparing ...

God of War is definitely up there as THE GOTY contender to beat. RDR2 comes a very close second as R* have without a doubt crafted a masterpiece; but it's just not as revolutionary for the franchise as God of War is.

I agree that it is really hard to choose, I love just getting immersed in RDR2, hanging around camp talking to the gang, maybe go fishing or hunting with one of the gang, and then robbing a stagecoach on the way back to camp. The story and the writing - even for incidental NPC's are top quality; also the fact that the missions have gold ratings increases the replayability of the game even further. So I'm defiantely sold on RDR2 being a strong GOTY candidate.

However...

I'm absolutely loving RDR2, I don't get all the complaints about the game. It's the most immersive open world game I've ever played. But I have to say God of War for GOTY, because even though RDR2 is very highly polished, GOW innovated and reinvented the game much better.

Yep, I found that dynamite worked best for them :D

I would advise you to give it a try. It's not The Witcher 3 - granted, but for a full on singleplayer card game (there's the multiplayer too, but I just mainly pay the singleplayer) it's a very good (card) game.

Too true. I thought gaming had peaked when I played Metal Gear Solid on PS1 way back in '98.

^^This soo much! Mod Nation Racer was such an underappreciated gem, the devs let that game down with poor optimisation (my God the loading times were awefull), but it was such an awesome game.

If you think The Last of Us 2 is a Zombie game, then you haven't been paying attention.

Typical of Polygon. Pretensious to the bone.

I have never seen the point of companion apps that remove aspects of the HUD from the TV screen and transplants it on your phone. I mean, what's the point of removing the games on screen map from the 42" screen right in front of me, so that it can be transplanted on my 8" phone screen that's in my pocket?

That was absolutely hilarious. I was in stitches all the way through. :))

I'm just worries what my Mrs is going do when I'm balls deep in Red Dead 2 for the next month or so? o.0

How many Mario games do we have now? Just wondering if anyones' been counting? Might be a franchise record by now.

It's a very smart move on Sony's part, it's not just about confidence, it's more about market forces and media mind share. In April Sony won't be competing for marketing and advertising space with EA, Microsoft and Deep Silver. Sony IP's like Bloodbourne, Horizon, God of War and even Spiderman have thrived because on launch they had room to breath - plus they are all stellar games in their own right.

Nooooo!!! Days Gone has been delayed to April!!!

Well to be honest I'm glad they moved it out of that crowded February. Now it doesn't have to compete in the same month with Anthem, Metro Exodus and Crackdown 3.

I've always wondered what the difference was between stupid and idiot, especially as some people are actually stupid idiots.
