I don't think Sony will be in a weak position going into next-gen this time around. They will have new launch IP's sure, but I think we'll see alot of cross-gen games to boost PS5 launch lineup. Games like Death Stranding, Last of Us 2, Ghost of Tsushima could all be cross-gen PS4/PS5 launch titles. Then you have studios like Guerilla Games who will probably launch Horizon Zero Dawn 2 on PS5. And we don't know what Naughty Dog's second studio is working on either - it coul...

Why are so many games releasing on October 23rd? Spiderman - City that Never Sleeps; Thronebreaker; Fallout 76 Beta - just to name a few. Why don't publishers space these things out a but more? Anyway it'll probably be more Spiderman for me, and the maybe Thronebreaker. I can pass on Fallout76.

I don't know man. Microsoft have been on the warpath lately. Plus PS5 won't launch in 2019 in all probability, 2020 was the earliest estimate from their last financial report conference.
Exactly this. Games can actually be very cathartic. The studies only look at the effect of "violent" video games primarily shooters. Why don't they look at the effect Tetris has on people? Or Candy Crush? I wonder how many acts of violence can be attributed to minecraft or pokemon.

it's extremely naive to say that "cross-play is fully realised." Microsoft haven't invested in multiple new first party studio's just so that their first party games will be available on other consoles. Basically there will always be the consoles' differentiator. If not why not all just go back to PC gaming?

That's because it is a direct sequel (a prequel to be exact) to Red Dead Redemption.
I think XbScarlet does. They've got new first party studios, no doubt a beast of a powerhouse next gen console, and I'm sure they'll want to launch before Sony. Sony can't afford to let up and rest on their laurels. But XbScarlet will need killer exclusives to go up against the Sony First party Juggernauts that will launch alongside the PS5. Sony will likely still push VR next gen and so might have the edge interms of ancillary value for the PS5.
Agreed. I think Bioware are hoping that Anthem will dethrone Mass Effect. At least they hope it'll make us forget about Mass Effect Andromeda - which lets be honest, if it wasn't a Mass Effect title would have been rated a bit higher.
Agreed. CDPR still have the rights for more Witcher games though (see ThroneBreaker etc). They bought the rights to use the world and characters in games. Mr Sapkowski at the time didn't think games would make significant revenue and sold the rights to the games for a whopping one off lump of... $9,500. He didn't even ask for royalties. 0.o
