You do realize that updating drivers is not complicated right? The only drivers I update regularly update are the GPU drivers, and they take a whopping 5 min and a few mouse clicks to install. They aren't even as necessary as they use to be if you don't have Sli.

Piracy is not nearly as bad as you think. All platforms have piracy, but it may be slightly higher on PC depending on how you look at it.
Piracy is much more complicated than "just stealing" on the PC.
One might pirate a game as a demo, then decide to purchase it. Or they won't, in which case they wouldn't have purchased it anyway. Few demos are on the PC.
Others will buy a game then pirate it to ...

BOSS and the Nexus Mod manger solve all but the most obvious conflicts.
As long as you know what you are effecting with the mods its pretty easy to avoid conflicts.

Yes, I agree its too early. However, games, regardless of platform, have trended toward the safe genres. Higher cost of development means higher risk which leads to less risk taking.
