First off Sony's PS3 initially failed because they wanted to win the Blu-Ray Vs. HD-DVD format war. Which they did largely because of the PS3. They put a very pricy Blu-Ray player in at the time; while the Xbox 360 stuck with a regular DVD drive (With a half-assed HD DVD add-on.). PS 3 was more difficult to program for often times making 3rd party platform games better on the Xbox 360; PS3 was forced to reduce back-compat titles because of the cost.

There were lots of...

You do realize this is not your normal acquisition, right? Bungie can stay multi-platform and self-publish their games. While being wholly owned by Sony not much actually changes for the studio except it will be all Sony's funding and Sony receiving the profits to their GAAS games. It's a little too confusing as of now to say this deal will result in exclusive games or not.

A lot of Sony gamers don't understand... It's what Sony wants not you. If they want to do live service games they will. They also just dropped $3B on a company that part of the agreement okayed for them to stay multiplatform and self publish their games. I really don't understand the purchase... except it guarantees Xbox wont buy them so it will keep Destiny and other Bungie IPs on Sony forever and allow Sony to reap the profits of Bungie's live service games But... um yea ...

And that is a little strange… putting $3.6B down and then saying you decide if a game is multi-plat probably a gesture of goodwill to MS to keep mainline COD and maybe some other A/B games multiplatform. If MS doesn’t play ball I’d imagine all Bungie games will then be exclusive.

Nice purchase. I personally never cared much for Destiny… But a lot of people do. Good move. That is a lot of money for 1 main Franchise… I wonder what made Sony bite for $3.6B something in their future roadmap had to have excited them.

Sure... But it's not like their Gaming division is all of a sudden like $80Billion in the whole, right? understand? They will continue to turn a profit the money isn't used by them but Microsoft as a whole.

"Microsoft gaming division will make profit by the year 2075"
I don't think you understand how terribly wrong that statement above is.

My thoughts on why consoles aren't necessarily a dying breed are they are already and have evolved. They are becoming more of entertainment hubs that focus on games. With all the streaming apps, music apps, streaming cable options... gaming is just one of the options you can do on them. Consoles have been the hub of just about all of my TV operations now.

I do think physical media will be gone if not entirely by next-generation... T...

You sure don't have much business since... The company Microsoft bought Activision/Blizzard for its gaming division. Microsoft is nearly a $3 trillion-dollar company. Do you know how quickly a company like that can generate $70 Billion? Probably pretty quickly. They had roughly $200 Billion cash on hand (so they would still have around $130 Billion left)... burning a hole doing nothing. They took $70 Billion and invested it in gaming. Purchasing Activision/Blizzard for $70 Billion w...

That is what a lot of people figured would happen with Zenimax Entertainment and Phil said they absolutely didn't have to keep them multiplatform to make financial sense. He double-downed on it by only allowing previously contracted games to appear on direct competitive platforms (Sony).

Now the Magnitude of this purchase and the franchises that came with it is much larger in scope. I could potentially see some of the franchises staying multiplatform (Call of Duty)... ...

Microsoft in Danger? No, not at all. They are nearly a 3 Trillion dollar company. They are miles ahead of Amazon and Apple in gaming. Yes, they are but if they lose the chance to acquire Activision/Blizzard and one of them makes the purchase it makes Microsoft Gaming Weaker as a result and Apple, Amazon or Sony that much more appealing. You have to stay ahead of the competition not behind it.

If MS oversteps its bounds the regulators will ...

Even with the purchase, Microsoft Gaming is still #3 behind Tencent and Sony. If MS is interested in being number one acquisitions will continue with developers/publishers that wish to sell until regulators reject the sale.

If a publisher wishes to sell they are up for grabs why wouldn't MS pursue when they are looking to increase the appeal of GamePass before Sony announces their similar GamePass competitor. It's kill or be killed in the Corporate world. Standin...

Or you could look at it like free-agency making the other team better. Many sports teams do this. Teams cannot FORCE players to sign and play for their team... Much like a Company cannot FORCE a development studio or publisher to join their corporation.

If a publisher or Development studio wants to sell the corporation with the most money and interest wins out 99.9% of the time that is just the fact of life in the corporate world. There is no doubt Sony will be making a...

He is leaving after the acquisition is complete. Before the acquisition is complete I don't believe MS has the power to get rid of him because they don't own them yet. After the acquisition is complete it has been stated the company will report to Phil Spencer directly not Bobby Kotick. A replacement will be made.

@ForwardDude
Call of Duty Franchise didn't cost any Xbox Gamer $70 Billion. It cost $70 Billion dollars to Microsoft which is nearly a $3 Trillion dollar company. Clearly it is a move Microsoft could afford with roughly $200 billion cash on hand. If Starfield is delayed it's okay. Halo Infinite turned out Great after a long delay. Death loop exclusivity runs out this year and will be day 1 on GamePass, Ghostwire Tokyo will be Day 1 on GamePass once the Exclusivity Microsof...

Well... I don't think a company spends $68.7 Billion to put games out on direct competitor consoles. I'd imagine this will be similar to the Zenimax deal. Games already under contract will be honored after that more than likely... Xbox/PC/mobile.
Of course, this is all after the deal closes which rumored time frame is 2023.

The developers are already supported by Microsoft there isn’t a need to buy the game. Companies are compensated on an agreed upon price and time frame the game will be on GamePass.

Of course the gamer will receive a 10% discount if they purchase while the game is on GamePass but it really isn’t necessary. So if they haven’t accomplished everything they wanted to while the game was on GamePass sure give it purchase I suppose.

I got the Quest 2 as a late Christmas gift for my 11 and 14-year-old. Overall I'm very unimpressed with it. What are the fun games? I played Beat Saber (Okay for what it is), daughters played Job Simulator until they beat it. Haven't played it since. I Bought Arizona Sunshine (zombie game) I played it for about 2hrs I haven't suited back up to play it since. For about a week the Quest 2 has sat around collecting dust. What are the fun games to give a try? If this is truly w...
