Am l missing something? Home console sales versus handheld console sales. PS5 versus Switch. The Switch is a handheld that can be played on a TV. That was possible with the SEGA Nomad and PSP years ago.
What’s the point if you always play docked?
Snowboard Kidz, Wipeout 64, Blastcorps, Pilotwings 64. There wasn’t a lot of games on N64, so not many top games. Jetforce Gemini?
But the PS3 launched at a high price compared to the Xbox 360 and Wii back then. I think in the UK, it launched at a whopping £425. It was basically out of reach for most gamers worldwide. There’s no denying that the PS3 was held back for a few years due to the price.
Not for £70 on PS5 it isn’t.
Did NES games come y-fold factory sealed? I’ve lost count at how many times I’ve read these articles and games look revealed. In the UK, you can buy secondhand DVDs y-fold factory sealed, so someone somewhere is resealing them. Can be done with almost anything. I’d be x-raying it at that price.
Semiconductors for toasters?
As if it’s never going to happen. Such a pointless article.
Next it’ll be OLED Switch Lite. People asking for a 4K Switch, it’s pointless as Switch games look tip top anyway. But a 4K Switch now would basically make the Switch 2 like a waste of time. Nintendo do right keeping 4K for Switch 2, but could just stick with OLED. Makes zero difference to me because my Switch never leaves the dock.
The PSP was a handheld that could be plugged into a TV. The Switch is no different. Big screen gaming on the PSP back in 2005/06, you could say Nintendo snatched the idea of Sony.
I remember first seeing the PS in EGM magazine in 1993/94 and thought it was a hoax. At the time, the Mega Drive and SNES was still going strong. Sony and NAMCO showing off Ridge Racer and Tekken, things started to heat up. As much as l loved the Saturn and N64, both consoles got trampled by the PS. But Sony was sneaking about well before the PS. Sony Imagesoft and Sony’s hand in the production of the Mega CD put them in good stead.
£70 for a PS5 game in the UK, that works out at around $97. Not sure how much PS5 games sell for in the US, but $70 works out at around £50 and that’s with VAT included. In 1996, Nintendo 64 games sold for £60 tops. Any UK gamers remember Mega Drive Virtua Racing for £70 back in the early to mid 1990s? But only a fool would buy games at launch.
Lord of the Rings rip off meets Dark Souls/Bloodbourne etc. Let’s all bang our drums?.....
But when does a game not look incredible due to console/PC power? What’s original about this game? Another game banging the same drum. Wait until it’s £20/$20.
Never played the arcade version or the Saturn version. Surprised there’s never been a collection. Never forgotten Confidential Mission on Dreamcast.
Wasn’t Mario Odyssey a canned Wii U game? I wonder how many of Nintendo’s games got canned on the Wii U to then be released on the Switch? Take away Wii U ports like Mario Kart 8 and BoTW, it’s borderline releases. I bet even Yoshi on the Switch was a canned Wii U game. But the Switch will keep selling no matter what’s released.
Never understood Bayonetta. Mario Kart 8 being a Wii U port, Mario Kart 9 is due. Can sort of understand Metroid Prime 4, but not really a fan. Found that last Mario game on the Switch to be a bit boring. I’d settle for Mario Galaxy 3. Can’t ever see a new F-Zero and even Wave Race. When you look at the Wii sales tipping 100+ million, even that wasn’t enough for Nintendo to release Wave Race 4. You go back to the likes on the Super NES and Nintendo 64 and games like Rock ‘n’ Racing, Pilotwing...
The Switch being a handheld, it's going to be up there with the rest of Nintendo's handhelds, which always sell well.
SEGA died after Dreamcast, they never really released anything groundbreaking on other formats. And for the love of gaming, we don’t need anymore collections. Top Ten SEGA dream list would be Baku Baku Animal 2, Outrun 3, Super Hang On 2, Virtua Fighter 6, Virtua Racing 2, Jet Set Radio 3, SEGA Rally 4, ESWAT 2, Headhunter 3, Sonic Adventure 3 and SEGA Bass Fishing 3. Plenty of others to be had. Maybe an arcade collection as many of SEGA’s arcade games never made it to consoles.
Too much same old, same old down at Nintendo. Still no Wave Race, Pilotwings, Stunt Race or F-Zero. Thinking back to N64, Snowboard Kidz, Blastcorps, 1080 Snowboarding etc.
